I posted this on the why I like zooks thread...

"They perform without all the bells, whistles, and creature comforts that most folks with SUV's regard as necessities...."

And it got me thinking.....I like a Spartan vehicle that I can add bells & whistles to as needed or wanted.....I'm a hopeless tinkerer and a frustrated inventor and I'm always thinking on how to re-invent the wheel.....

That being said, What are some of the bells and whistles you've made?

Some of mine are:
Both doors activate 3 interior lights....
Headlight/parking light reminder "beeper".....
Anti-theft devices disguised as OEM switches.....
CamelBak hydration pak on the back of driver's seat.....

I'm sure there are more, but I'm curious as what other folks have done........

I'll leave the purpose of this modification to your imagination, but I used to have a switch in a certain vehicle that would turn out all the side marker and tailights (and brake lights) while still permitting the use of the headlights.

I'd like to get a set of several red lights and several clear lights for the interior; this would enable to see at night without blinding me or would also allow me to locate something when the vehicle is stationary.

I like the idea of disabling the clutch interlock for 20 seconds but I just disable it altogether. Of course a previous girlfriend almost drove one of my cars off a pier overlooking a river but fortunately the motor didn't catch ....

1 on board air
2 winch controles in dash
3 stereo in sealed ammo can under dash stock location
4 12 volt plug that will handle a 300 watt 12 volt heater (standard household 110 plug so I can power 12 acessorys as far away as I have extention cords)good for lights when camping

5 12 volt heater in the back to be replaced with a water one

been thinking about making a food warmer out of a ammo can and some tubing using the hose that used to go carry hot water to the carb

Ripped out the seat belt buzzer, it scares the deer away.

Added a large motorcycle battery as a second battery, with the usual bat splitter, and used a Ford
starter solinoid to make it so I can jump start myself from the cab when I leave the lights on and kill
the battery...

Ammo can arm rest, still needs the padded part added that will include a cupholder and a bracket
off the box for the CB to bolt to. Not that its used much any more except to listen in on the
truckers on long trips. We have switched to FRS radios, They work much better in the hills and
Canyons. I am going to steal a page from the people that used a Keychain retractor to hang their
CB mics from and do the same to the FRS...

Plumbed my jerry can into the main tank with an E. fuel pump to be able to refuel while driving.
I use this all the time.

Hey Outlaw,

How did you do that tap-in feature? The reason I ask.. I have a half-zuk that I drag around as a trailer that still has the fuel tank attached and I've always wanted to use that as a secondary fuel source.

Maybe some of you haven't seen Zuk-n-a-half yet... Zuk-n-a-Half

The only way I'd do what you have in mind Murph would be to use a stainless line with an electric solenoid to control an electric fuel pump . The lines could be plumbed easily enough , but the risk of fire is too high really . Bells and whistles on mine :
4 wheel hydro locks , one of which is finally leaking a bit .
Engine with no morals
Overhead carry rack w/lights
Extra dome lights in the rear
Swing away tool boxes on the rear
Rear flood lights

Murph, I'd have to go along with Sarge on coupling a fuel line to the trailer. But a fuel fill hose
would be a good feature for your trailer. E pump it and cap the hose when not in use.

Andy -- yes, I was thinking of a "night light" like the unit you have pictured. What is that, a photo from Galls? But I was thinking more of some of those little $0.99 "clearance" lights that are for sale at truck stops, hardware stores, etc .... about two red ones and a four clear ones -- clear under the dash and in the "cargo bed" and the red ones on the "targa" bar.

Lundy ... never tried to outrun "the man" and wouldn't think of it anyway. It was more to frighten off (or freak out) tailgaters at night than anything and to four wheel at night and not give away too much of the size and shape of the vehicle in the woods to anyone who might have been looking. Funny how the older we get, the stranger some of the ideas from our younger days becomes.

I think I've disabled every clutch interlock and DRL system on every vehicle I've owned in addition to the various buzzers and beepers for seatbelts and headlights. I have a toolbox full of these little gizmos.

I like the idea of the motorcycle battery to recharge yourself -- cheap, light and compact. Good one.

Outlaws,
I tape over my door switches which stops my head light buzzer and my alarm from arming ( if I get out and close the door) scaring the sh!t outa any deer in about a 500 mile radius. Also I have fitted a bolt on rack for hunting on the rear, twin 12v cigarette plugs on rear for hand held spot lights for hunting and twin stainless steel holders for the hand helds when not in use.
As well for hunting I have my four forward facing spots which are individually switched by the driver for L/H, R/H and centers so the shooter doesn't have light blazing into the scope if leaning over the hood for a shot. With all this Bambi don't have a chance

Hmmm, Hunting must be different south of the equator. Were not alowed to hunt most game at night.
1/2 hour before and after sunup/sunset is generally the rule. In CA where I live only coyotes and a
few other vermin can be hunted at night, and then only in desegnated areas of the state. My
understanding is that NZ is overrun with deer though, So I guess differnt rules apply.

A bit O/T here but I just check up on our local fire arms site to see if any things changed before I post and it's still legal to shoot at night but it's at your own risk.
As for over run with deer thats not so any more Outlaw, our department of conservation have been poisoning our deer with 1080 for years now so they few and far between on accessible public land. As for myself I mainly hunt on private land thats riddled with deer, pigs. Actually alot of American's fly over and hunt the same place in the roar season as well.

Thanks David...

Couple to the bite valve/hose is one of those nift key retractors. I have them on the CB mike as well. They make managing those items easier while on the wing......

I forgot to mention the high intensity interior lights. I used 55 watt small back up lights, one for the front and one for the cargo area, which lights up my nifty home brew cargo rack....
