/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif To be perfectly honest, Dan.....I sort of like it this way, with no Mazda BBS to siphon you away. Some of your posts to THIS BBS are really stellar. I've learned a lot from them. We want you here....on this BBS...even if we need to BUY you a Jeep. There's a good 80's CJ in Washington state for 750 bucks....daily driver. Have a good time with family/close friends on Thursday. That's what thankfullness is for....having the bills paid, a warm fire, and a few close friends./wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif Actually, Tex; your comments ARE interesting. Lots of good, hard-core racing know-how in them. I figure if you haven't blown at least three "built" engines to smithereens, you probably haven't really "been " there. You know, like when you walk up the slope of the track corner and a chunk of the cam comes rolling down the banking to greet you, and the driver has the: "Wot happened?" expression on his face./wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif YUK! UGH! Is racing a heartbreak endeavor or what?/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Hi, Jim... We just watched that Y2K movie where the generators all took a dump and left patients on the operating table in the dark. Heh heh... Well, you know Hollywood. HOWEVER....I think I would be already ON generators when Wah Tew Kay got to my hospital....JUST in case. We are dry and snowless out here on the Jest Coast, despite the ski guys praying intensely for snow. Maybe the rug wasn't thick enough. Have a great time with friends and family! /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

Hey Dave,
We did a load bank test on one of our Waukesha gassers last week and it wouldn't go over 60% of nameplate. A bad governor was the culprit. Will change it out soon! All other gensets tested OK.

Take Care and Happy Thanksgiving!! /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Wow, are you really that worried about Wah Tew Kay (like that one!) probaly to late to buy a gennie now anyway. Just hope that I will be onshore for the festivities I planned at home.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif You know; I'm not all that worried about it, but well, how dumb would you have to be to NOT go on generators....just in case. In critical businesses, you do a lot more than that just for reliability drill on a regular basis. When they had the LA quake in '94, so many generators failed because of minor crap like old fuel, stiff fan belts, deteriorated hoses, dead batteries, AND....a unit which was located on the eighth floor....burns seven gallons per hour.....and has a 100 gallon tank. Yep....someone had to walk up eight floors with two army cans each 3/4 full every hour. Of course that didn't last long either because there was NOWHERE TO GET FUEL....the stations had no power. I think it would be a good idea...JUST IN CASE somebody screws up./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif Drilling the North Sea....that's BIG TIME. Heh heh. I THINK I can still find my metal hard hat? You have to have metal to look like on old time wildcatter don't you? Someone with an old Bucyrus on a semi? And a lot of hope....TODAY's THE DAY! Heh heh./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

CJDave,...

I would like to wear my metal (MSA full brim) hat but they are no longer allowed, apparently some guy got his brains zapped when he walked in to a electrical cable (Oops!) and they were outlawed! Do you have a drilling background? But you are right about the gennies, may be I should invesst in one anyway (and a electrical heater!) Just wish I had a fireplace I can get wood very cheap in this area (although most of is pine) I suppose I can always pitch my three person tent for five persons.

OTOH I have seen and been involved with the Way Tew Kay preps for my company and I have great confidence in them to maintain supplies, I jsut hope that the rest in the supply chain is as serious! I know that my Jeep will be sitting with a full tank and 20l Jerry can on Dec 31st!

Drill and Jeep on!

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Love the metal MSA. lite and cool.Lost our's 20 yr ago/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

At work on Y2K we are going to take two gens off line and put them on station service.
Open the station service from the system. One unit gen the other cond.. The cond unit
puts a little load on the gen unit [.8 MW] Helps smooth the gov on the gen unit. Total
load of 1.5 MW. Can run forever like this if we had to .This way we have S.S. which is pumps, units,
heat. Jan,1 can be -30 with a 50 to 60 mph wind. We can get our units back up and on line faster
this way. Nothing worst than trying to put a power plant back together in the dark with a flash light
in your mouth. Plan for the worst, hope for the best.
I was working in a control center in Yankton SD when the 94 quake hit Cal. WE had control of
6 hydro plants 36 units. When the quake hit the power going to Cal. over the DC tie in Mont.
for the east- west tie, came right back at us and made us deal with it.[High Freq/ voltage]
SO if someone screws up on the Y2K thing they do not have to be in your back yard to hurt you.

O.B.T.W.
Our big boys in Omaha don't know we are doing this. They want us to just sit on our hands.
How that for just sticking your head in the sand.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Had a company that did water well work....have built several rigs....paid my dues on rigs in the sun spinning pipe with 40' of 1" endless manila....I still make a great line splice in rope... Not as messy or as dangerous as the ol' bidness. Had some guys work for me who were off ol' rigs....they were fearless, hard workers. They thought my six-line main block was: "Back pocket size." Heh heh. You know, I'm not all that woried about the BIG stuff in Y2K...it'll be little glitches that cause problems. Stuff you don't think about, like the guy registeing the first 2000 car in Maine....the compooter issued him a "Horseless Carriage" plate 'cause it thought it was a 1900 model car./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Just a note to clarify. The Waukesha generator I mentioned in my last post is one of four standby sets at the hospital where I work. We had a "dry run" for y2k on 9/9/99 and ABSOLUTELY nothing happened. However, I will have to go to work 10PM 12/31 just to make sure all is well at the hospital and will stay on duty until it is certain all is well. No NYE party for me /wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif

Well there is New England for you, still living in the darker ages ;) You are right about the drilling hands, sometimes I feel I need to keep them back to get them to work save. Gives a whole different meaing to "Can-do-attitude", I suppose you rig would be "back pocket", the one here is good for pulling 1,000,000 lbs (the block by itselve is 55kips). Love those Cats in the generator room though, what a blast!

Were about to start drilling a new well to 20000 odd ft (sorry can't tell you more, otherwise I'll have to kill you! :) ) which probably will mostly water anyway although that's not whatit supposed to get LOL!

Enjoy Turkey day!

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Well, if all goes well at the hospital, and you can take a few weeks off, you could go to Aberdeen and help Bluejay drill his "No Dope Well". That's where you climb up on the drill rig and ask the grizzled old pusher how deep and what they've found; and he looks at you....spits out some tobacco juice and says: "This here's a No Dope Well." In other words....go drill your own if you wanna know what's down there. Heh heh. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
