Jim's probably on the right track. His insight applies to any manual trans. If it's chattering and it stops when you put in the clutch .... it's usually your input shaft bearing. It's obviously too late ...... but when is the last time you checked the fluid level? I drove my Ford Ranger (4cyl 5 speed) too fast for too long and either threw the gear oil out the vent or .. since it was low .... heated the gear oil to such a state that a good bit of it "vaporized".(no leaks)... topped it off and drove it until the rest of the vehicle died
