Been working on the CJ for the last two or so months. It all started with a new exhaust system. Well still no new exhaust, but in the process i have done some other things. When i pulled the steering shaft and drivers side fender to drill a broken manifold bolt. I found my steering shaft was getting tired. About 2 years ago, i took three stock steering shafts and made one really tight one. Well it didnt last long. I was going to get a borgeson shaft, but i found something better.

I have enough parts to build more and ill put a post up on the F/S post.

Heres the pics.

Stock lower joint with new upper.

Stock upper with new lower and a borgenson joint and shaft.

Another shot of all three.

You can see how easy the shaft will move in and out and it will be much easier to remove if you have too. Everything is greasable, joints, and slider. The shaft is bigger then a stock front driveshaft. I dont think, ill ever where these out.

Those look like the same Spicer yokes I used for the gearbox and steering column. I used a slip yoke on one end of the shaft for adjustability, and grafted them onto a stock shaft. That way I maintained the same collapse range of the stock shaft, and for my use the stock shaft is plenty strong.

How much will your shaft compress? If that's not getting too personal.

In case of a wreck it can collapse all the way too the yoke. The spline section is welded onto the tube. For flex of everything moving during a wheeling trip, the splines can move 4 to 5 inches easily and with leaving at least half of the splines still intact. Its a kick butt setup. I got it on today and will have to add a pic later on.

The lower section is really no closer to the frame as the stock unit, because of it being just about the same size. And clearance for the manifolds isnt a issue at all. I left my camera at the shop or id have install pics up.

glad to see you around Pat.

Nope dont have a clue on the part numbers. Plus there are two different joints. So it would depend on what you have now. Just take it out, measure it and order one that way. Thats how i would do it.
