I have been looking through the quads lately for a new one and mainly have been looking at the kodiak and the scrambler 400 4x4. What I want is a 4x4 not all time 4wheel drive. That will be used the majority of the time for dirt and mud but every once in a while maybe some work. I need to know which one of these would be better or if there may be a better quad worth looking into.

Either quad would be pretty nice. The Kodiak is a 4 stroke and the Scrambler 400 is a 2 sroke. They will both get the job done. At least the Polaris is Oil injected so you don't have to premix. If you want to go one step up. Get the Scrambler 500. Will beat the Kodiak and the Scrambler in a race and also has the pushbutton 4 wheel drive. You'll have lots of fun on any however.

I too would have to say that you cant go wrong with the scramblers. I havent riden a Kodiac but i think it looks like a winner, and have heard good things about it as well. I have the scrambler 500 with the high output motor and that thing can really get it, loads of power. The only down side to the scramblers that i have found would have to be the weight of the machine. My 400ex is much more fun for jumping anything over about 5 foot and is less tiring to ride due in part to the weight, but the scrambler can go and due just about anything that you can do on any 4-wheeler out there(maybe not as good but you can do it). Your best bet is to try to ride the ones your interested in and see which fits your needs the best and go from there. Well welcome to the sport and just be glad you get to ride, i am.
