I just got a copy of the 2001 Product Preview for all GM cars and Trucks. This book has all of the new engine specs except for Hp on the 6.0 L gas V-8.

Engine/Hp/Torque
-----------------------------------
4.8L V-8/270@5,200rpm/285@4,000rpm
5.3L V-8/285@5,200rpm/325@4,000rpm
6.0L V-8/*/370@4,000rpm
8.1L V-8/340@4,200rpm/460@3,200rpm
6.6L V-8 diesel/300@3,100rpm/520@1,800rpm

8.l Liters works out to be between 492 to 497(the actual number I got was 494) cubic inches.(This is a rough calculation converting Liters to cubic inches) If anyone is interested in the new payloads and towing info, I can post that stuff also. The new Crew Cab and Dually trucks look pretty sweet. I will try to get a pick posted in the next day or so.

The HP on the 6.0 is 325 for the 2500HD & 3500, not sure if it'll go up on the 2500 or not. The current 6.0 is 300HP/355ft lbs. The "HD" version will get aluminum heads (I suspect the light-duty one will also in 2001) & low-restriction exhaust. The current "light-duty" 2500 is rated at 8,600 GVWR - same as the C/K 2500 "HD". The new 2500HD will be rated at 9,200 GVWR, effectively making it a single-wheel "one-ton". All 3500's will be dually's.

The 8.1 is 496". They arrived at that by using a tall-deck version of the current 454, kept the 4.25" bore, & increased the stroke from 4" to 4.375". The heads are significantly enhanced for better power as well.

4x4 "HD" versions will be 1.5-2" taller than the Silverado/Sierra 2500 that's currently available.

BTW, I have actually seen a pair of '01 cab & chassis trucks. One on a transport going the opposite direction on I-44, the other at a truck stop on I-44. The one that was stopped was a 3500 2wd with the Duramax & Allison, but with a Chevy cab, pre '01 hood, & GMC mud flaps, and some kind of odd utility bed (the one I saw going the other way on the highway also had a bed like that).

Needless to say, you picked a subject that interests me just a bit/wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif. I posted some of this info under the following headings earlier:

"I saw one"
"I saw another one".

Tex,

The book I have has the 6.0L engines torque up at 370 from 355 this year. Probably the newer heads and or exhaust. From the info I have, it looks like the new trucks will be 2-4 inches taller(though some data is yet to be determined). It also has the Cadillac Escalade still using the 350. This book is a month or so old. I would like to get my hands on one of those 496 engines. It would drink gas, but it would haul ass and everything else with it. Maybe the corvette engineers will drop it into a 'vette and tweake it a little. Chevrolet now has the largest and most powerful V-8 truck engines across the board.

Do any of you guys know anything (such as gear ratio the bellhousing etc.) about the ZF S6-650 6spd that is going in the new trucks? I want to see the 327 and the 496 in the camaro, but the vette would be cool also. Also a special 496 new Chevelle would kick *ss.

Yeah, the newer 6.0 is 325HP/370ft lbs, but I don't know if that will apply to the 2500 (8600 GVWR), or just the 2500HD (9200 GVWR). My understanding is that the 2500HD might be true dual exhaust with no cats. The new HD trucks will be IFS (I've seen pictures) up to 3500. There will also be a 3600 variant, which presumably replaces the current 3500HD. The current 3500HD is a solid-axle 2wd only & I have heard no rumors (either way) about a 3600 4x4 version.

I too would love to see a 496 "Chevelle", but of course it'll never happen. Probably for the best anyway. Chevy has to hire some better exterior designers first. Have you seen the newest Chevy cars? I kind of like the Malibu & bought one, but it's fairly non-descript, or "bland" if you will (like it's main competition, the Camry). But, the new Impala & Monte Carlo are just plain hideous. What the *#$% is up with the rear of those cars?!?!?!? UGLY! And what a shame that is since they're both fantastic cars.
