I live in NJ and just bought a 67 Commando from E-bay. I could not be more happy. That little V6 has a lot of TLC. My only problem right now is my wife wants it. Here I thought if I bought something ugly enough she would not want it. NOT THE CASE. I took "Victoria" to Walmart yesterday and got some new tires and now she runs like a champ. I even went out today and with the temp at 16 degrees she started right up. I am thinking of getting a softtop. Any advise? Is it worth it?

a couple of the cheaper sites for the top are www.800-923-jeeps.com and www.thejeep.com . Rather you want to do it or not is entirely a personal choice. The soft tops are louder but easier to go topless. They reduce the weight above the center of gravity but are less secure. You might want to consider just taking the hard top off in summer and rigging a "bikini" type top. The hard top will be snugger in the winter.

Be sure to fill out your profile, it really helps. Also, this site is a valuable resource. Some of the regulars on here are so knowledgable I feel like an idiot. I encourage you to join the American Jeepster Club (www.off-road.com/jeepster/ ) It is free but donations are accepted. That site has a lot of useful info, as well. I encourage you to upgrade your electrical system per the hints on that site, if it hasen't been done already.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Jeepsters!

(P.S. soon you may hear from some of the owners of '72 & '73 "bullnose" commando's. They are kinda like that uncle that no one talks about but keeps showing up...lol)

Hey welcome to the board I'm from Jersey too, live in Millburn but am out around Hopatcong all the time. I have a Kayline, now Specialty Top Co., top on mine and love it. It is supposed to be better than the Bestop one thats available. If you want to check it out sometime just let me know. This is their website http://www.specialtytopco.com. The top runs about $475 with shipping if I remember right but is well worth it. I would get the tinted window option too.

We've got a STC top on our '67... black with the tinted windows... it is well worth the price..!!..and easy to install... We kept the hard-top for winter...but the soft top is so tight that we're gonna ditch the hard top and save space...

even jeepster owners think that there rides are ugly. it's a good thing you did'nt buy a commando then everybody in your family and in your neighborhood would want to drive it. it' a common problem with us commando owners, being harrased everywhere we go, it's like driving an exotic car.
btw jeepsters are 66'-71, commandos are from 72'-73', just for clairification.

RIGHT, I confuse the Toad with an exotic car every time I see a picture of it.

Now there you have a point! Having had a peek under the hood of that machine I would say that is exotic. I thought you sold the Long Beach a while ago, wasn't it on e-bay?
