is there a way to use a newer auto with a jeep that has the manual computer?
I'm kinda stuck because I need the CPS window in the housing, but I have a manual computer in my 94 yj. I can get a tj auto cheap, but it's computer controlled...
I'm having a hard time finding an ax-15..... mine has the synchros completely gone. I really hate rebuilding tranny's, and the kit is almost $200 for this thing...

I don't see why not.. You just won't have a lock up converter ..that's the only thing the PCM controls (at least on the TJ). The rest is the same numb/dumb (and simple) throttle linkage. The basic trans hasn't changed much in 30 years.

So Gary what you are saying is the whole time I was looking for an auto, (904/999) I could have used the so called computer controled one (92 Cherokee)that I have laying in my garage!!!!

Chris, get an XJ auto. Look here for a swap on a TJ,....I know you're looking for the YJ, but there should be that much difference.

As long as it came from a like engine (4 banger for 4 banger/ L6 for L6) for the bolt pattern ..and it is indeed a 32RH ..same thing (904,999,909). That's why I'm so glad that I one of the last sane automatics in existance. Those yahoo engineers only make weak kneed stuff that's needlessly sophisticated. Maybe they have reduced the hp that it takes to run the auto ...but at what cost?

If you use a earlier model (no lock up) on a lock up PCM'd vehicle ..you will get a code that says that the PCM allegedly engaged the lock up clutch ...yet the PCM detects a differential between the engine rpms and the vehicle speed sensor. I'm not sure if this is a "Check Engine LIght" code, however.

Other than the incidentals (starter, flexplate, etc.) ..the ONLY thing that is required for the thing to shift correctly is the appropriate linkage set up.

Spline count on the t-case is different than either of the sticks. (I forget what it is).
