It's the wifes but I don't mind one bit! We just bought it last weekend. It's a 92 GMC Typhoon.

It has some mods. I have a time slip from Denver's track (5800ft) and she pulled a 13.628 @ 100.51mph. That works out to 12.6 at sealevel.

Ok, I have the perfect plan for that vehicle. Replace the turbo with a Turbonetics Y2K (good for delivering air up to 2000hp) and then place the whole engine on the kitchentable for the next 10 months/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

Kendog- NY-Denver... easy drive, come and get the motorless K30 I have for sale!/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Andreas- Not sure if my wife will let me modify it. She's worried I'll start on it and it will sit in the garage for 10 months like something else I own! /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Think it might be a little difficult to get 2000hp out of the V6.

Thanks for the comments!

No no no I´m just saying the turbo is capable of deliviring the air needed for 2000 hp /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif. *Hypnotizing sound*....must....get....bigger turbo....must...get...

What if you got two? Would that convince your wife?/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif Just kidding. The Typhoon is very very cool.

if I were to buy your K 30 what are some other things i should know about it? Like how are the brakes? Any leaks? What about the 4x4? And do both tanks operate? How does the tranny shift? Is the frame rotted? How much rust on the body, and rockers and cab corners and cab floor?

It does have an intercooler which has been modified to run cooler. The current turbo is an ATR 935cfm which is the largest one ATR makes. Future headers and posible 2.02 V6 heads may be next but it's up to the wife. With those mods, it should pull 12's here in Denver. Thats a huge Turbo Andreas! Some hard core Syclone/Typhoon racers have thought about a twin turbo setup but the steering shaft and a few other things is in the way.

Kendog- I bought the K30 with the engine out of it so I can't tell you much and I haven't inspected the brakes and I don't know how it shifts. It's pretty much rust free except for one front wheel well which has rust on it.

It actually runs great with the larger turbo. Just like a stock setup, no hesitation or major detonation. I have it turned down a little (12 psi) to run pump gas but you can bet it will be cranked up to 23psi with race gas at the track. I really think the headers and heads would help though. You should here it whine! /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

It's got a full ATR 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust with a straight through SS muffler (all mendral bent). Have an 3" pipe to replace the cat for the track which I'll probably just keep until next the e-test. Other mods consist of 36lb injectors, 9.5" stall, and ATR Pitbull chip.

what size V6 comes in those guys.
you should definitely get headers asap, but id hold off on the heads. youll be able to take much pride in running 12's and know that the valve covers have never been off(that is if the original owner didnt take em off).
i didnt think about this earlier, but i bet youre wife is alot safer driving that awd vehicle in the snow and ice compared to any other vehicle.

everything's bigger in TEXAS!

Nice ride! Don't want to sound like I'm throwing water on your fire, but if I remember right, when you run under boost (i.e. blower/turbo) the altitude correction doesn't apply. Can't swear by that, my racing days are long over.
Boost is great! I once read that a 231 buick under 18 psi boost cycled the same volume of air as a normally carb'd 700 cid motor!

There's always been that debate about the altitude. Here's a quick page my friend wrote on his modded supercharged GTP. He's races it in Denver but travels down to KC once a year. The Syclone/Typhoon/GN guys get the same results and will run 1 second faster at sealevel (providing good traction is there).

The affects of altitude (air pressure) on Forced Induction Engines

Correction Factors:
It's commonly claimed that NHRA Altitude Correction Factors do not apply to forced induction cars. This is not the case however.
1. Most all Top Fuel cars are Supercharged
2. Even Stock and Super stock cars sometimes use Forced Induction
3. My corrected times match almost perfectly to what I run at lower elevations (K.C.)
4. The factors can be view at: http://www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/altitude.html

Dyno Information:
DynoJet dynometer graphs have a "built in" correction calculation for air pressure, temp, and humidity. Since air pressure is directly related to altitude, we can say that a Dyno is corrected for altitude.
1. My car last dyno'd (@ the wheels) 229 HP/310 Ft-lbs of TQ with a correction factor of 1.233
a. My car had a PCM, 3.4" Pulley, MSP CAI, Plugs, and Wires (stock exhaust)
2. Without the correction factor that is (@ the wheels) 186HP/251 Ft-lbs of TQ
a. This means I Dyno'd 10 HP BELOW a stock GTP at sea level. This can only be attributed to the altitude. This run was Auto-Tapped and everything is within "accepted" values

Manifold Air Pressure:
We all know that Boost varies with conditions, including backpressure, temperature, pulley size, and of course altitude. Boost is an easily measurable factor; this is what I have found:
1. Stock Boost (3.8" pulley)
a. Sea Level 6-7 PSI
b. Altitude (5800') 4-5PSI

2. 3.4" Pulley
a. Sea Level 13-14 PSI
b. Altitude 10.5-11.5 PSI

3. 3" Pulley
a. Sea Level 16+ PSI
b. Altitude 13-14 PSI
**************************************
Sorry so long on that.

When I drove my supercharged GTP to Vegas, I could feel much more power and could get the tires to spin in 2nd. In Denver, I could never do that. My GTP runs mid 14's here in Denver. Other GTP owners with the same mods as I have run mid 13's at sealevel.

jbtsurf - the engine is a 4.3 V6
