Help! I can't budge the nut that holds the clutch on. Even in gear I can't keep the engine from turning over. I have the stupid 4-groove tool that fits the nut and have even bent it trying to turn the nut. There is no locking pin in the nut. Which way loosens it - I'm not sure if has reverse threads or not. Is there a trick I don't know about?

Plus one of the posts that goes up through the center of one of the clutch springs is broke. Is this part available without buying the entire clutch?

This is an "82 Honda XR 200R".

I am desperate so I thank you for any help.

I've used a toothbrush handle or a nylon belt jammed in the gears to stop the basket from turning while trying to take off the nut.

Post in the center of the clutch spring? The one the clutch spring bolt threads into? You'll be replacing the basket.

Thanks for the reply. Yes it is the part that the clutch spring bolt threads into. What exactly is the basket? Is it expensive to replace.

Which way does the nut thread off? I am about to give up and just use an air impact wrench but I don't want it to turn the wrong way.

Thanks.

On many clutch baskets it is possible to fix a broken post. In this case you need to check to see if the post has a hole going through the bqasket where the post mounts. If it does you can use a grade 8 metric bolt or higher to go from the back of the basket through the center of the post (always check clearance here by inserting the bolt then putting it on the bike). This can also be done if the basket doesn't have a hole going throught it where the post is but you will obviously need to drill a hole there. Use red locktite when reassembling and don't strip the post when tightening the bolt.

You will need to do this to every post, if you do only one you will throw the balance of the entire assembly off.

Last time I needed this trick was on a 98 kx 250. Worked like a charm and saved a heap of dough!!!
