Hey All,

Running a 1983 CJ-7 with a stock Dana 30, stock shafts. Just got a call from my mechanic that I'll need new u-joints and seals on the front (hey, no flack for the mechanic doing the work, this is on a re-gear). I want to be able to get the parts to him early in the day.

In looking at my trusty 4WD hardware catalog, I *think* what I need are a set of Spicer 260 u-joints. My questions:

1) Can somebody please confirm that it is in fact a 260?
2) Should I go with the greasable or non-greasable models?

If anybody can double check me on these before tomorrow morning, I would GREATLY appreciate. It's far enough of a trip that I don't trust the parts monkeys on this one.

You are right about the 260. It's up to you if you want to get the greasable ones or not. Get the greasable ones if you are going to regularly grease them, if not, get the non greasable.

Yes, they are 260's, and NAPA or any good auto store should carry Spicer, which is all I recommend. As to greaseable or non-greaseable, do a seach, we covered it about a week ago, there is a very minor strength difference. I have no preference other than it just being a Spicer.

Nows the perfect time to swap to those Superior axles with the bigger u-joints. We talked about them the other day, the best price around is $389 for the set from Trailquest. Hell of a lot cheaper than Warn.

I like the way you think Brad, but it just so happens that today, I blew a little over $400 for my new Garmin GPSMAP 176. So the Jeep budget is currently depleted for this month.

I will however make sure to keep Trail-Quest in mind for when I get ready to change these out (near future). On the plus side this will also mean that I have a fresh set of trail-spares.

Thank you a WHOLE lot on this guys!!!!!

Yj's can just get the ones from the 1995 year, they had the larger joints.
