My wife says I\'m a dork.

My wife says I'm a dork because will driving aound town yesterday I kept waving at other jeepers. Yesterday was the sunniest day we've had in a long time down here and there was a lot of jeepers out and about. I tried to explain it to here but she just laughted and called me a dork.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Chuck,

How long you been married? Did she have a problem w/ you waving to other Jeepers before being married? Or, did you acquire Jeep after wife?

Take heart, my wife does not understand the Jeep wave either.
Image
Her loss, I figure. I've even met some other drivers of Jeeps (square headlights, mind you; & note I said "drivers of Jeeps, not fellow Jeepers) who have indicated they don't understand why Jeepers wave to one another
Image
and are hostile to the idea that they should at least return a wave
Image
. Can't we somehow repossess a Jeep based on such crass ignorance?!
Image

In a world where other drivers would just as well shoot you as to allow you into their lane, a little inter-Jeep family friendliness is appreciated by us who understand
Image
.

Alas, we can lead horses to water, but cannot make 'em drink.... Don't give up the fight though. It is a good and worthy cause that we carry forth...

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Its funny, I hav ementioned it before here, that my wife bought my jeep for me while engaged, because my cherokee died on me. Now she wishes she never had. But the good thing about this is, she is slowly coming around to the jeep. she doesnt love like I do, but i can now tlak to her about thing I want to do to it and she listens and gives good advise about what "we" should and shouldnt buy for it. Its great. I was really supprised when she said she had fun riding in it all day yesterday.

I have to say that I'm a big fan of the Jeepwave, yet I rarely utilize it.

I'm currently driving a bone-stock 98 XJ and no SWB would even consider waving at me...that, and I live in Massachusetts and people are pretty anti-social here. I feel like a lower class citizen in the whole Jeep hierarchy when driving a stock XJ so I don't feel as if I have a right to initiate a Jeepwave with a SWB or a lifted midsize Jeep. Anyway, my CJ should be on the road this weekend, assuming that the Massachusetts RMV doesn't throw any more red-tape in front of me since Maine didn't require the last owner to title it since it was more than 15 years old. Either way, if its running by this weekend I'm driving it from Maine to Massachusetts and praying that I don't get busted, and that it will take a sticker in a state that creates ridiculous regulations simply to employ more beaurocrats. I need the CJ on the road to get over my inferiority complex so that I will be able to have the courage to initiate Jeepwaves with whomever I please. Anyway, despite my lack of participation in the Jeepwave, I have participated in a similar phenonmena. I used to drive(and still own) a '68 VW bug. The whole air-cooled VW family is very happy to wave at other air-cooled VW's, but they won't initiate a wave to a liquid cooled VW. Perhaps I've brought the VW predjudice of only waiving to certain models with me to the Jeep scene. All that I know is anyone can own a stock XJ, or TJ, but it takes a different breed to own a CJ or a lifted Jeep. My hat is off to all of you the wave indiscriminately. You make the world a happier, more welcome place and I only wish that I could be as good a person as you.

1. Of course your wife say's your a dork.
2. Until you do what she says,
3. Exactly when she says it,
4. And how she says it...
5. And can anticipate here wants and needs and desires,
6. You'll continue to be a dork...
7. It's a Wife thing... You wouldn't understand.

Women tend to rule their domain. They either rule it through seduction or antaganism ....or a little (or a great deal) of both.

My wife has "her" rules for the jeep wave. It can ONLY be an extension of the fingers off of the wheel ..with the hand never leaving the wheel. Anything more overt is NOT appropriate. Stock jeeps with young female drivers tend not to engage in the jeep wave ...so if the wife engages in the "jeep wave" ..it must be subtle ..so that it can easily be ignored and not cause undo shunning by the said poseur (my wife being just to the correct side of poseur') . The passenger (me, frequently) may NOT engage in the "jeep wave". This is reserved for the driver of the jeep. This is even if the driver of the jeep has chosen NOT to engage in a jeep wave exchange with a participating fellow jeeper.

If you heard a few of our conversations on this ....you might want to put "THOU SHALL NOT" in front of these tenets ...err ..edicts of jeep wave propriety.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Living in a college town there are bunches of stock Jeeps (TJ and XJ) wandering arounc...I've had to start the wave to criteria at: Some kind of add on besides additional lights...Bigger tires, lift, winch doesn't matter, looks like you might have taken it off the pavement at least once...I'll wave at ya...I'm personally fond of the Harley biker wave...slow and low (you've gotta have 1/2 doors or no doors for this)

one of the bazzillion sites on the "wave"

I visit Massachusetts a lot in my TJ. I get waves. I start to think people are friendly. No one waves in northeastern NJ. As for the XJ part. I'll Jeep wave to you if you wave to me. XJ owners 99.9% are not "Jeepers" is all.

CHUCKDJEEPSTER...She actually called you a dork?..HAHAHA. Oh aaa. that's not nice. A little jealous because you have a common interest with other humans, and they respond positively to you?

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Its kinda funny, my wife loves driving around in my Jeep because of all the waves we get. It does bother me that there are so many stock newer jeeps around, the owners of which dont seem to have the slightest knowledge of their Jeeps, despite their "Its a Jeep thing...." stickers plastered across the windshield. These Jeep neophytes have yet to grasp what it really means to own a Jeep and I often cant bring myself to initiate the wave with them due to the blank stares I often get in return. However if a Jeep is modified I will gladly wave or if the wave is initiated by the stock Jeeper I will glady reciprocate.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Dont sweat it, it happens to the best of us.
My best friend, who likes jeeps, and has even helped me work on the jeep on many occasions, got to ride in my cj for the first time in years...
we were driving down the road and i saw a fellow jeeper, so naturally i waved, and the jeeper waved back. My buddy laughed at me and in a mocking voice commented "awwwwe Ken has his nice lil jeep pals who wave to him, how cute..."
I would think of all people he would understand. but i guess the old saying really is true.

it takes more than owning a jeep to become a jeeper.
it is not until you have shed your blood sweat tears and money into your jeep that you will truly understand what it is to be a jeeper.

it is not something non jeepers understand very easily.
it is like trying to explain why a man has a hard time looking anywhere but down when talking to a well endowed female wearing a low cut top. Unless you are a guy, and in that situation, you will never understand why it is, just accept it as fact and move on.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

heh.. I got called a dork by my Jeepchick whenever I waved.. right up until a built yj waved going the other way... full on, out the 1/2 doors wave..

Then she thought it was soooooooo cool.. and now she waves at the bone stock yuppies and makes me think she's a dork :p

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

My wife is active in the jeep waving. She always wonders why people do not wave back. Given she gets more waves if she drives my jeep because it is a blonde driving the jeep
Image

Fortunately i married well. my wie is just about to give birth and she can't wait to get back in the jeep. She has been having withdrawl. Right now I am installing bakcseats in the CJ and the commando so we can install a baby seat for rides.

I guess my next mod is to convert the tailgate into a baby changing table

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Well, Lirpasue waves to all the other jeepers and gets kinda PO'd when they don't wave back.....mumbles about the yuppie scum in jeeps....lol. When someone does wave back she gets pretty proud and excited about it. Me, I wave at everyone.
BTW, if your wife said you're a dork, it's gotta be true or else she wouldn't of said it....lol (j/k)

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

DanStew,

Congrats on the soon-to-be new Jeeper about to join your family! Make sure you have a nice clean (sterilized) jeep for the baby to grasp once he/she is clear of mama. (Delivery room nurses will REALLY love you for that one!
Image
Image
)

And, ensure "Baby' gets ride home from hospital in one of your Jeeps - no matter what your mother-in-law thinks. (I insisted that my youngest son take his maiden ride in my '82 Scrambler - just lil' Jeremiah and daddy. My mother-in-law almost had a fit
Image
. Still brings smiles to my face after almost 2 years... her having a fit, that is!
Image
)

When's your baby due? Got a name yet? Can I suggest a few? Willy(s), or something you can call him by initials: CJ. I tried the CJ theme, but we could not agree on the "C" name; "Colt" did not wash w/ my wife
Image
.

Also, don't forget, they have Jeep-named/themed strollers on the market. Design/specs are
Image
, but still kinda cool.

Happy trails and Godspeed w/ the impending birth

I actually do not think we need to drive the jeep to pick up the mommy and baby, i can see the hospital from my backyard and probably takes 2 minutes to walk to it
Image

Funny thing is maybe she will have a delivery room that overlooks the backyard with the jeep in it
Image
Image

As for names:
If it is a boy.. it will be Daniel
If it is a girl.. it will be (hopefully) Cassidy.

To continued on the girls name, we were playing around with making her middle name "Jane" so that we can call her CJ for short
Image
Image

Oh I cant wait for her to have a complex in high school because we named her after a jeep
Image

But we will find out on the magical day what sex and name the baby will have. It will be a good day.

Actually probably could get away with brinning them home in the jeep, p[robably the commando since it is easier to get into because it isnt lifted as much.

According to te rules of Jeep wave ediquete you do not have to initiate the wave to a stock Jeep, it is their responsibilty to do so because you have a higher scoring Jeep. So don't feel so bad.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Well jeepgod... you know them dang Marine 'extremists'
Image
. They come up with and do the strangest things... (Strange, that is, to the uninitiated in the Corps' creed and traditions.) Maybe we are from another planet... After all, a good many civilians' behavior seems pretty alien to me.

Of course, as a younger Jarhead I always said if I ever had a daughter I'd name her "Marina Cora". For some reason, unknown to me
Image
, most females either didn't 'get it'
Image
, or if they did get it, didn't find it acceptable or amusing. I was somewhat serious... and thought it was funny to boot.

When I was a kid in early-mid '70's, my family knew a couple w/ a baby boy they called CJ. No connection to Jeeps though; kid named Carl Junior after his poppa.

CJ is a good name for a dog. Has good 'calling' character. What kind of dog? My dogs get names associated w/ the late, great John Wayne. Currently I have ' Stryker ', a hundred pound yellow lab (15mos).

Take care.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

The worst is when I attempt to wave to women in Jeeps. I always do it because I don't want to be sexist or anything, but most of the time they just look at me like I'm trying to do a long distance pickup or something. When you buy a Jeep, the wave rules should be part of the owners manual or some other must read literature.

NO, NO, NO, NO NOOOOOOO. It should NOT be part of the owners manual! It's a Jeep thing, if they don't get it, they don't get it!!! If a stock Jeep driver is not aware of their surroundings enough to pick up on the wave thing, then the heck with them...It's not like we are excluding them or keeping them from learning about the wave...they are just to simple minded to figure it out...they drive CARS with the Jeep name on them...Jeepers drive Jeeps.

O/T, Last night a couple friends and I were trying to figure out the difference between Geeks and Dorks...We finnaly came up with:

All Geeks are Dorks but not all Dorks are Geeks. Geeks are Dorks that can program in a computer language (yes, Basic counts), but dorks can't fugure out binary. If you can only program in Fortran or Basic you are a Geek-Dork. If you know Linux AND C++ then you are a super Geek. The exception to the rule is: If you know Linux and C++ but use them daily in your job, you MAY be a geek, but you are definitely a programer...

There are 10 kinds of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't...

I'm a Dork.

Re: My wife says I\'m a dork.

Around here I just initiate the wave if it's a CJ or a built Jeep that looks like it's being used for what it was built for. If it's stock or built but very clean and no scratches, I'll let them initiate. Too much trouble to take a hand off the wheel for clueless people.
As for the wife calling yo a dork, mine humors me as if I'm crazy or something. Go figure. Maybe she's right....
