Well the CJ started yesterday, but alas on final assembly I noticed that I no longer have the air-cleaner retension stud or attachment or whatver you call that thing that goes from the carb through the center of the air box. Anybody know where to start looking for a replacement? or of another way to keep the damn thing on? Would parts stores have these and if so under what name? My discription only gets me puzzeled looks and strange glances.

You can pick one of those up at any parts store. Usually they sell them in the box with new air cleaner assemblies. I think they are just called "air cleaner studs". You may have to shorten it though. The one I got was way too long. I just took a hacksaw to it and cut it to size. No problems..

If a Jeep can't take you there, Think twice about going..
Some threaded rod in the proper size will work...thats all that they really are.

The roblem I have is I am missing the cross piece also that the rod would thread into.

How about the junkyard. You don't say what carb you need it for, but an Eagle might be a source.

Sorry its for a carter BBD, Junk yards are few and far between here, I have called a few with no luck.

I sure wish this would have presented itself Friday. I spent Saturday morning getting York A/C brackets from an Eagle and saw several of the parts you need. Could have pulled one and sent it to you. If I go that way anytime soon I will send you a private message to see if you still need it.

I think I have what you are looking for, I will know for sure this weekend, do you still need it?

If DCMSU doesn't have one, I should. I have two carters in my supply shed. I'd be glad to toss one of those studs your way.

if pep boys and checkers don't have one then call the dealer. i rarely use the dealer but this would not be a big ticket item. i bet the dealer will either have one in stock or can order. it must be just like on my 87yj. i have taken it off a few times to rebuild carb. curved spring steel that you have to pry open to take off carb with a short threaded stem attached that air filter canister bolts to!
good luck parts chasing!

I am going to make one last try today on locating the part, If I have no luck I will take someone up on sending me one. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for all the response, this board is a real saver.
