My parents have caught the offroading bug!

My parents just came back from Colorado where they rented a Jeep and went on some "offroad" trails. But of course you're stuck going on the ones they say are allright for you. Both him and my mom loved it and want to get their own 4x4 so they can go offroading at other places in Colorado and other states. Of course neither of them are young kids and they need something that's reliable, rides nice...all that good stuff. My dad being a Ford man looked at what they had to offer, laughed, then went to the Jeep dealer. He doesn't like Grand Cherokees because in his words, "every jerkoff has one", can't get a Wrangler because of room and the ride...so he's seriously thinking of the Liberty. Now I don't like it myself but if my old man is going to get any new SUV, at least he's getting a JEEP!

Maybe if you explain to him that even though "every jerk off has one," not all the jerk offs know what to do with it off the pavement. And if he saves the money from getting a 2002 Liberty, and puts it into suspension, lift or some other modification for it and he can just laugh when he sees those jerkoffs. Than he too can just pass by them thinking, I am not like those jerk offs, I know what to do with mine and I know what it can do. Sit down and have a chat, I'm sure he'll come around.

Good job AJs parents! I say they should buy a HO 4.0 XJ and lift it and mod it.

The Liberty is cheaper than a Grand, and the parents won't even consider buying used. Trust me I tried talking him into getting an XJ and all that stuff but it's not like they'll be trying to tame the Rubicon anytime. I was really suprised when he showed me the specs of the Liberty, thought it was small but it's wider than a Grand but just slightly shorter. My parent's are kinda strange in a cool way, they got rid of their Windstar and bought a Ford Focus Street Edition 4 door with all the gizmos, now dad is looking into headers, injectors, superchargers... I think as he's gotten older he's gotten crazier and I've gotten more sane.

One more option...The Jeep dealer I usually go to here in MO has about 5 2001 XJ's left. One is a wine red automatic with everything for $16900!! These jeeps are brand new on the lot still! There may not be any left near you, though.

I checked near me...they have more Dodge Vipers or Plymouth Prowlers than they do Cherokees. Who would have thought that would happen? 1 left in Solar Yellow. $18,886. I guess they like Cherokees as much as we do and arent willing to part with it. Considering its a Sport. Oh well.

Solar yellow? I read in the chrysler buzz that Solar Yellow was the single most popular TJ color last year. I didn't even know they made 'em in XJ's.
However, I was also wrong about the XJ. It's a short term lease return. Here's what they have in pre-owned:
2001 Jeep Cherokee Sienna $19,800
2001 Jeep Cherokee Red $19,500
2001 Jeep Cherokee Silver $18,800
2001 Jeep Cherokee Blue $18,500
2001 Jeep Cherokee Red $17,800
2001 Jeep Cherokee Sienna $16,800
2001 Jeep Cherokee White $16,800
2001 Jeep Cherokee Sienna $16,800
2001 Jeep Cherokee Sienna $16,800
2000 Jeep Cherokee Medium Fern Green $15,995
2000 Jeep Cherokee Red $15,900
2000 Jeep Cherokee Black $15,900
1998 Jeep Cherokee Gunmetal $12,900
1998 Jeep Cherokee Red $12,900
1998 Jeep Cherokee Red $10,995
Looks like we may be ok for XJ's for a few more years. The Gunmetal is cool...

There was a 97 XJ in 4wheel and SU magazine a couple issues ago. It was red, and the lady works as a guide for Let's go Jeepin. It had the 8" Rock Ready lift, American Racing Tyrants, and 33x12.5 BFB MT's. Snorkle, skid plates, and Custom Fabrication bumpers. This thing was COOOL.

Chrysler Jeep has a 0% financing thing going on for their vehicles rightr now with a few exclusions. The Jeep exclusion is the Liberty. I'd say go for the ZJ!! They are super cheap and for what you get compared to the KJ -- it's just a sweeter ride! Get them to do some test drives -- there's a reason the ZJ sells so well!!

The overtaking is natural.

Haven't looked on the new lots lately. I saw a sweet '97 used one for 13,900 with only 6,500 miles. I remember a month ago seeing a new one for $27500, but I don't know the package deal.

i'm not really a jeep guy...and at first i thought that jeep was "selling out" to the soccer mom's who need their SUV's, but i read an interesting article that detailed the strict tests that ALL jeep vehicles must pass...it also noted that the Liberty articulates very well for an IFS vehicle...jeep really did their homework with this one...so i would recant my original "sell out" jeer at jeep, and wouldn't mind driving or owning one...if i could afford it...my first choice would be a cherokee though(if it had to be Jeep)

I seriously doubt that the KJ is "Rubicon Ready" like the Jeeps in the past. I heard they had to stack rocks at almost every obstacle, and took most of the bypasses as well. Yes, for an IFS vehichle it has a lot of flex. But the flex is in the back end where a coil-sprung solid axle lives, not up front where the IFS is.
Chrysler did sell out Jeep. From the suspension to the ****ty V-6 that has to get up near 4000 rpms to make any respectable torque. They built themselves a passenger car that doesn't deserve the Jeep nametag. Its little more than a tall AMC Eagle Station Wagon, only AMC had enough brains not to call it a Jeep Eagle.

If I got my hands on a Liberty I'd go buy a bottle of Vaseline so I could ram it up the @$$ of whoever thought up that piece of ****. ...On second thought, I wouldn't even use the Vaseline. /wwwthreads_images/icons/mad.gif

Now don't be shy, say it like you mean it! I agree that touting the Liberty as Rubicon ready is like saying kind words will protect you from a rabid grizzly. It's just with all the crap out there on the market AT LEAST I'm glad they are looking at buying a Jeep product. I also don't understand the thinking in putting the V6 into that when they should have just updated the inline-6, that motor is tried and true. Oh well.
