I am very impressed with myself. Since i am basically mechanically inept, I am amazed that I was able to install this sunroof (courtesy of wildweasel) correctly and it doesn't even leak or anything.

yay for me.

>>Hey, looks great . How well is it sealed inside? How is the trim work on it?

It is sealed perfectly on the outer part with silicone and the latch holds it firmly against the rubber gasket inside. It's kinda like a sandwich deal. The top part (which actually holds the glass and the opening hardware) drops into the hole you cut and has a flat flange around it. The part that drops through has 32 (count'em, 32!) holes that a retaining ring kind of thing screws into from below. That retaining ring seals against the headliner.

does that answer the question? Im nt sure if thats what you meant?

>>That should make it wheel better. Ha Ha!

its better than that lockers and gearing and suspension crap you guys think makes your rigs work better offroad. This will allow me to climb vertical walls and drive over anything less than 7 feet tall without even scraping the bottom of the truck.

>>Looks good!

And less filling!

>> Nice rock rails too. Nice pink Heep too. I've always liked the color of your Zook. Is that the stock color?

Nay! It was a kind of dark silver color originally. This is some weird color the guy who owned it before me said was "Ford Green". I think of it as "tan." That guy is kind of brain dead, but I might be able to pry the actual color out of him sometime, if i can get him to remember it. When I am done scraping all of this paint off it with rocks and tree limbs, I might want to paint it this color again or maybe just cover it all with powdercoated black diamondplate.

>>how did you do around the curves on the top?

do you mean the two ridge things? The front of it is in front of where they end and the back part is sealed up with silicone in the holes. The inside retaining ring is notched to fit where the come down.

I'll get some better detail pics tomorrow and postem for all.

>>where did you get it.....i may have to get one of those for my tin top!!!

I got it from wildweasel. It was on a junk Sammy he got for parts, I think. He chopped off the section of roof it was still installed in and put it in his yard with the rest of his parts. When was over thereone day he offered it to me.

I forget the brand name, it is on the opening hardware. I will check it tomorrow and give you the brand. I dunno if maybe it was a stock option? it does look really nice, though, and opens it up a lot inside. I'm contemplating a good way to be able to take the glass out for wheelin instead of just popping it up.

>>I have an '86 hardtop waiting to be restored with what I think may be a factory sunroof.

Maybe I can cross reference with you and see if the stuff printed\etched on it is the same. I have no idea what year the piece of a roof was that this came from (wildweasel probably knows) but it was a JX, cause I also grabbed the sunvisors from it before I tossed the roof section and one has the little vanity mirror in it.

>> I really like how much more open it feels inside it compared to my other hardtop

I am looking forward to getting out there with the doors off and the sunroof out or at least up. I have been so busy since I put it in I haven't had a chance to drive anywhere except from my back yard to my front yard.

It depends on his height...If one can stand on the seat and place their butt against the glass....then it's a moon roof...

OK...it was a feeble attempt at perverse humor.....

Oh, you mean it wasn't MADE to have the glass easily pop out? That SUX! what a POS! j/k! Now you need to to remove your side rear windows. Very cool & seems like a softop. Just take your time removing those little screws (remove the ones ON the body not the glass) then put neva sieze on the screws to make them easy to remove next time. For the end of June until September I run my tintop with both side windows out & sometimes the rear door removed with an air gate across the back. It VERY cool. Seriously thinking of making it into a removeable hardtop too.

It may have a secret button somewhere, I just didnt see it the first time around. I'll have to look more closely. The front "hinges" just slide into place on the frame, so if the rear latch could be separated easily, then you could just slide it out. Maybe I can engineer that someday or thebrain trust at the fab fest can think somehting up.

I had thought of this. If it ever looks like we are going to have some time without raqin I might try this.

I would end up with a zuk full of wasps nests if I did that here, not to mention all the water. What is an air gate? We had the discussion a long time ago on this board about wherther or not it was a good idea to remove the rear door and everyone decided it would suck exhaust into the thing. ...Hmm..that might explain a lot about Wyld Bill...

>> Seriously thinking of making it into a removeable hardtop too

is there any part of the hardtop that acts as a structural member? I know its got a frame, but maybe the top is necessary for some kind of bracing that the softtops have elsewhere?

I have a friend who cut the roof off a four door dodge diplomat (its unibody) nd drove it around for a couple hours before the car buckled in half. He's a lawyer, now.

Every glass sunfroof I've seen has the capabilities to be removed. Yours should to. you might just need to look at it for a while to figure out how it works. One word of caution (from experience) don't try to remove it while you're going down the road. You can pop it open. but don't try to take the glass out...
