You mean there are people that actually check the mpg on their Jeep!?/wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif I've owned mine 16 years, never bothered, figured not a heck of a lot I could do about mpg with a vehicle with worse aerodynamics than my house. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

My wife's '98 XJ with the 4.0/auto/3.55 gears gets 20 mpg highway. That's averaging 60-65 mph. I love that little engine. Great torque./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I get about 14 around town w/ a 97 TJ 4.0, auto, 50k and i don't have a clue for the highway, the xj has a 4 speed auto w/ od compared to my 3 speed auto w/o od, so that mixes things up a little.

I had an 89' XJ with the 4.0 w/EFI that would get up to 24 on the highway (A/C off). I had the 5 speed with 3.55's and 30x9.50's and 3-1/2 inches of lift. The mileage went up a couple of miles when the EGR valve was mysteriously unplugged. I also cleaned all the injectors and the ports and that helped it a little too. As I recall it usually ran around 2700 RPM at 75. I would have kept that little Jeep, but the ex took it. I sure miss that little Jeep.

Hey Jeepfiend,
You are getting 24MPG on higway with 30" tires and 3-1/2" of lift, that's very good. Plus, 2700RPM at 75mph!!/wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif Mine would be around 2200 rpm at 75mph, then my mileage would drop to around 16mpg. /wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif That's with 32" BFGs.
Lately, I've been driving around 65mph and trying to keep my rpm under 1900. With all that effort I'm getting about 17.3mpg on higway and I put on average of 400 to 500miles a week.

Well, just so you all know, my Jeep Wrangler 4.2 gets about 11Mpg, with 4 inch lift, and 33's, and the headers too. My Grand Cherokee gets about 22 on the highway with the 5.2l V8, The Grand Waggy gets about 14mpg on the highway, and i dont know why, but no matter how much gas I put in the CJ2a, It just gets 0 miles per gallon...maybe one day, when the engine gets put back in it, it will get better MPG...

The 90 YJ with a 4.2L, 5 speed, 3.07 gears, and 235's was only getting 11 MPG when I sold it at 100,000 miles. The TJ with 31's, a 5 speed, 3.73's, and a Turbo city kit only gets 15 MPG. My buddy has a TJ with 3.55's and 33's get 17-18 MPG. I guess when I get the 35's I should get 20 MPG:)

My 1993 YJ 4.0 5spd gets 16MPG. It never fluctuates. That's pretty much city driving. It's all stock. Someday, when I take a road trip, I'll check the highway MPG.

The TJ--1998 Sahara, 4.0L, AUTOMATIC, 3.08s, 4" lift, winch, 33" BFG M/ts, etc. gets about 13 in town and 15 highway. The Ram 1998, 1500 4door 4x4, 5.9L 360, 3.92s, gets 12city, 14highway. Both vehicles are driven with authority and a heavy foot.

91YJ:
4.0L, (rebuilt about 10K ago)
4.56's
35's,
6" Lift If I stay under 70, I can get 15-18 mpg freeway at like 2600rpm, runnin faster 75-80, I get 13 or less at 2900 rpm.

I have no idea around town, seeing as though my speedo is hopelessly off.

16-17 mpg and it doesn't seem to matter. Mostly highway 65-75 but does this even when doing suburban type stuff.

I always thought that I have the wrong speedo gear installed ...but then I realized that even if I corrected it it would only make me feel better ..I'd still put the same amount in the tank and I'd just rack up the mileage on the odometer sooner.

I did almost as good in a HEAVY C20 (base 1 ton) with a V8 and over ONE TON more weight (2wd)

My 97 TJ w/ 4.0L, 3.07, 4" lift and 33s gets about 14-15 mpg. Thats just everyday mix of highway/city driving. NOt too bad. Had a 74 Bronco with a 302 bored .030 with 33s and a bunch of other performance mods that got 13mpg. Don't know how it did it but it did.
