I'm in the process of mounting a used fiberglass tub onto a cj-5. My question is this. I didn't notice any special mounting brackets when the guy took it off the frame. The bolts went staight through the body into to cab. If you look in the "four wheel drive hardware" catalog, it says that you have to use that special mounting kit. Is this really necessary? I have a brand new polyurithane body mount kit. And why is there that 24" rubber that they sell with the kit? Where do you put that, and do you really need it? Ok, last question. I've been looking to add a 1" body lift also, but all the kits I see say that they will not work with fiberglass tubs. Why is that. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith

I had to remount the glass tub on my CJ5 as the previous owner had it 2" too far back. I found some 3/4" thick x 2" dia (approx.) rubber bushings at NAPA (not sure what they were intended for), put them between the body and the frame, slipped a very short piece of heater hose through the hole in the frame, and put a thinner (1/4" thick) rubber washer underneath. A bolt all the way through with fender washers on each end (note that it the bolt touches no metal), and I've had no problems at all.

AS for the rubber lift question, hockey pucks aslo work fine and cost $1 each. The kit they provide in catalogs is pretty much pre cut and does not help anything...its worthless if you can fabricate anything yourself. The added metal plates just give a little more surface area for the body to absorb shocks and bumps and severe off road abuse. My cj-7 body from aj's is just mounted by putting grade 8 bolts and big washers through the body, as there are already metal reinforcements built in the body's sandwhiched construction. I would recommend mounting the front and rear mounts and then cutting/adding the mounting material rubber so that it fits snug for the body mounts in between.
