All this talk about the Ford Duraspark got me wondering what I had in my CJ2. I went over to PartsMike and read all the posts over there and now need to know how to tell the difference between a DS1 and DS2. I have a 302 in my Jeep, upgraded to eletronic ign. with the engine swap, the cap and rotor up dated when I bought them from Napa to the large style cap, I have a canister type coil. I mounted the control box to the firewall. I think the control box has four wires running to it. The reason I ask is because my daughter has a Thunderbird that has a small modual mounted to the distributor which mine does not have. What do I have?
Thanks,
Rob

You have the plain old Motorcraft distributor and DuraSpark module. Same stuff we have been talking about.

You already have the large cap, so, a good cap and rotor puts your distributor in line.
The TFI coil and coil connector is a direct replacement for yours, and will improve usable spark energy by about 1-1/2 times all through the RPM range.

You are also one step away from the MSD 6 series upgrade, that will give you Capacitive Discharge Ignition, and Multiple Spark Discharge,.... (CDI & MSD)
This module will increase your usable spark energy by 100 to 1,000% on all things that count. The unit is about $135 for the base model to about $250 for the bruiser.
Nothing else to buy, works with your stock everything.
If you live in a non-emissions state, you can even wire it so you can use your DuraSpark as a back up incase the MSD unit fails in the field.

Let me know, and I'll give details.

since i was the one that used the terms, ds1 and two are not much more than the generation of duraspark systems. the very first durasparks had some problems (as did the first hei systems) but have long since been cured. i more or less threw that at PM to see if i would get a reaction. i have recieved none.

I haven't posted over there yet, but I have been lurking a little since CJ Dave sent me the address.
He doesn't seem to catch on to what people are saying very quick.

Talked to a web server today about a web site and BBS.
Pretty expensive, and very time consuming.
I'm going to ping some potential sponsors, and see what happens...

It WILL BE an open forum, and everyone will be encouraged to post and submit articles if it goes ahead...

I live in California, but my Jeep is a 1946, so it's not covered by any smog regulations. I would like to get rid of the old canister coil, and I'd be using a MSD6a. Could you run thru the wiring to use the DuraSpark for a back-up? I now carry a point system for back-up.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob, Email me privately and I'll send you diagrams of how to do it really easly.
If you want to, you can even do it with the filp of a switch.
