Well I recently talked to the mechanic who was going to do my head gasket, but it turns out I have a cracked block, right below the exhaust manifold. What do I do now. How hard would it be to swap in a 304 (my bro has one laying around). Also I have just spent 120 bucks and I am right back where I started. ARGHHHH

Welcome to the world of Jeep ownership, if it were'nt for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all! As for your engine problem, I'm assuming you a have a 258 6 cylinder, correct? If you do, then the 304 would bolt up to your tranny just fine. You would probably need new engine mounts, someone else will know for sure. Not much else I can tell you, I don't mess with Jeep drivetrains; that's why I swapped in a 350/350. Good luck!

its fairly cheap to put a new engine in...provided that you do it yourself. an amc 360, 304 and maybe a 401 bolts directly into your tranny. but several things need to be changed. motor mounts had to go when i put in the 360. i used the pilot bushing from my 258 and the clutch. also i had to mess with vacuum lines and wiring...not to much though. another thing i wish i had done is put in a 4 core radiator. its a fun swap to do, and it makes driving the jeep round town a lot of fun

you can lead people to the truth, but you cant make them understand it.
