Ok - this is my first time to post hope you guys can help. I have a 88 Samurai with 1.3. I have a miss that happens everynow and then. I have taken it to the mechanic cause I dont have time to troubleshoot the problem. The mechanic said that it was a bad distributor cap (which I think is bull - cause I just tuned it up). After he charged me $151.00 for changing the plugs and distributor cap, thats when I found the time to troubleshoot the problem. Not to mention that the miss is still present!!! I have changed the Ignition Coil, O2 Sensor, Fuel Filter (I cut the old one in two & it was very clean), wires, rotor, cap, re-gapped the plugs, and I have just ordered the vent tube for the carb. The miss is strange it does it when under a load like going up a hill or down shifting to pass a car (usually a Jeep, LOL)! The miss keeps on until I pull over and let the thing die - restart it and it is good to go. I have noticed that after this the Tach reads about 1.5 at idle. I have also thought that it could be the ECU getting to hot cause the Zooks heater REALLY works - Has anybody found a similar problem with a ECU like this before. Hopefully the Vent tube will correct this problem or maybe your guys in the Zook Frontier can shed some light here - any help is greatly appreciated!

The dist is a good Idea to try. Other possibilities:

Bad grounds; 2 of these, one at the battery to the firewall, and another at the dist to firewall.
My dist ground was broke inside the insulation giving intermitand misses.

Dirt in the float bowl, grit can some times plug a jet and cause it to run weak, simulating a miss.
Or fine dirt can float around the emulsion tube, pluging the tiny holes in the tube intermitantly.
Same result. I have found that small engine carbs that use emulsion tubes are prone to this trick.

The fact that the miss goes away after shutdown may indicate the emulsion tube prob. It all
floats down to the bottom after shutdown, clearing the "miss".

That sounds like the same problem I am having. It's very intermitent and if I'm pusing harder than normal for an extended period of time I loose power when "it" happens, it's kinna like someone is closing the throttle plate, but my foot does not move. I thought it was my sparks were too hot, nope, I have not drained/done anything to the carb as far as cleaning it were to go.. It's not weather related, does not seem to be temp related, it just happens.. It'll idle like crap and usually stall, then it'll be real hard to start, I've got my clutch plate wedged open, so It can't be that..
I dunno, I'll be going to a weber soon, maybe that'll solve any weird problems I have..
