Actually I and several others out here in UT are working on a R/C rock crawling group. This is where I have been spending most of my free time and is why I havn't posted on here very much lately.

I built a 64-77 Bronco to compete in the "Scale" class. I completed it not all that long ago complete with locked rear diff, and limited slip front (I've since completely locked the front). I run the new Yokohama Geolander MT tires (HPI) on the chrome 2.2" wheel. It looks very scale and has imspired a few guys to build rigs for our scale class.

The second truck I'm building is just getting underway. Its a Clod Buster based rig to compete in the Monster truck class. It is going to be totally custom and will have 4-wheel steering.

Its a fun hobby.

I've seen them before, just not around here man... I've been looking around for them too. I'll keep my eye out for them to turn up somewhere.

Here is the page I use to host the pics of the Bronco
I love Bronco's, but I would have used a XJ, ZJ, or WJ body if I could find one that fit. There are shots of the skidplates I made and the custom 4link rear setup also. I'll have to look around, because I have a photo of the artic somewhere.

Clicky for Bronco.

Those are mostly custom built trucks, however they are based on existing rigs. I am assuming you are talking about the trucks in the video. Those Skyjacker crawlers are basically new and improved STOMPER 4x4's for the 21st century

The best out of the box crawler I can think of would be the
Tamiya TXT-1 you wouldn't really have to do anything but lock your diffs. I'm building up a Clod Buster wich has a dated chassis design (solid axles though and very low cg.) I've ordered a custom chassis with 4 link susp to build this truck into a serious crawler.

Most of the guys I crawl with use the IFS/IRS trucks. Traxxas E&T-Maxx trucks as well as the HPI Savage. They have made them work pretty good, but I'm hoping to give the "upset" with my solid axle truck.

The best way to get into this is to find a Local Hobby Shop (LHS) that sponsors/runs crawling events or other races. Or if you are looking to do this on your own you can find online shops like Tower Hobbies.

There are some good forums with tons of info on these trucks, rock crawling, and other events.
www.rcmt.net (Great Forum)
www.rcjimsplace.com/frames.html (Another good Forum)
www.rc4wd.com (This is a retailer with lots of good stuff for the popular trucks).

Hey JSSuper, sorry I haven't replied. Just got back into town last night from the holidays. Good to be home by the way.

Anyway, that's awesome. I'm trying to find some guys here in NC to do the same sort of stuff. I've got a mostly stock Bullhead right now that I"m working on. IT's a great truck, but it needs some massaging, don't they all.

I'm actually looking at making a custom chassis around the first of the year. I'm collecting info now to make sure I get it right. Have a buddy with a CNC cutting machine really helps.

I'll get some pics up once I get it done.

Hope you guys all had a good Thanksgiving.
