Message to those interested in the Ocean Shores Management Plan or
Habitat Conservation Plan for Snowy Plovers

Oregon Parks and Recreation Department is rescheduling the Tillamook public
meeting and adding a new public meeting at Pacific City due to overwhelming
public requests. The Pacific City meeting will focus mostly on the proposals
for the beaches at Pacific City, Bob Straub and Tierra del Mar/McPhillips Beach
to the mouth of Sand Lake. We will provide large scale maps to view and a
summary of the proposals for this area. The Tillamook meeting will cover the
general contents of both plans, with a focus on the beaches in Tillamook County.
Public comment will be taken at both meetings. Staff will be available to
answer questions. Public comments will be accepted through March 19, and you
can send them in sooner if you like. Thanks to all of you who have already sent
comments to us.

The plans are in draft form and will not be decided on until this summer. Your
comments could make a difference in what is proposed. A summary of comments and
recommended changes to the plan will be reviewed by the Commission at their
April meeting, but they will not make decisions until their summer meeting, at
the earliest.

To view the plans you can go to the department web site at www.prd.state.or.us,
then navigate to Department Administration, then Planning, then Ocean Shores
Management Plan/Habitat Conservation Plan, then click on one of the PDF files
for chapters of the Ocean Shores Plan, or on the Habitat Conservation Plan for
snowy plover proposals. The site also now has beach maps to view or download.
You can view individual maps by clicking on the appropriate file on that page.
The areas shown on the maps as heavy red dashed lines indicate the proposed
Emphasis Areas for snowy plover management.

If you do not have web access, you can view the plans at your local library.
Call ahead to be sure they have the plan you want to see ready for you. If you
can't make either of the public meetings you can send comments or questions by
email to [email protected] or mail to:
