A solid Rear AXLE

man they go and do something cool like putting a hemi in it then they go and completely ruin it by putting ifs under it

my mom has a wj and it rides fine, is it really that much cheaper to build ifs than a solid axle?

My .02

I do not like it... Looks to much like a soft-road vehicle... I am thinking volvoo cross country or the like.

Jeff

Please I know how to spell voloo but there are now putting links into the post that the author did not put in. I refuse to use the correct spelling of voloo

Agreed. While a HEMi is intriguing, not to mention fuel consuming, this new Jeep to the family is nothing more than to quench the appetite of the luxury SUV market. Granted, this puppy will more than kick the butts of the others on the market, but I can't get past the image of seeing some 40+ prissy woman in her fur coat driving this thing. I see a lot of people driving GC's for status only.

Well, as 40+ kinda guy- I see nothing at all wrong with fur coat wearin 40+ prissy women...particularly if that is the ONLY thing they are wearing!!
My wife is a 30+ fur coat wearing, GC driving prissy woman.
hey- she's got it like that

I'd rather see it with a Kenne-Bell supercharged straight six with around 320 Ft pounds of torque. The Hemi is a bit overated for a hemi. IFS could be O.K. if it is designed right. Seems to me it's much cheaper to make a solid axle front. The fact that they are using IFS leads me to believe this is intended to see more grocery store parking lots that rock trails.

The differnce with your wife, is that you're an avid Jeeper.

I'm talkin' about the "money is not object" females that only drive the GC because of the status they believe will behold them.

Ya'll know the ones I'm talkin' about. The only mud they know of is at the spa.

Me, "avid jeeper"? Thanx for compliment but I'm justa guy that likes to wrench and fortunate for me, jeeps are built to be wrenched on...
As far as staus goes- most of the women AND men where I live that crave symbols o'status- well, they drive H2's.

After reading up this Grand Cherokee I'd say it's gonna be pretty sweet. I personally won't give up my
90 2dr XJ for it but we are seriously looking at one for our family vehicle. My wife has always loved the Grands. Shoot, she's owned two of them ( and 'wheeled them both).

As far as a gas guzzling Hemi... This Hemi is supposed to the type that shuts off a 4 cylinders when they are not needed. It's expected to net 20% nore fuel efficiency while netting 100 more horsepower than the 4.7 V8 that's in it now.
I'd say that's an improvement.

Sounds as though I am the only guy here who would say this........but why does everyone want a Hemi so bad? There is a reason that Chrysler quit making them, and, there are TONS of better designs for combustion chambers. Ever wonder why Ferrari or BMW or any high tech race company DOESN'T use a hemispherical head? Anyway, The way I see it, everything is goingthe route of IFS these days. Dumb people think it is infinately better, so they can use it as a selling point. "The new Jeep Grand Cherokee, with a completely redisigned front suspension to give the best possible ride......."

345 HP, 4WD for under $40K? Sure, you could buy a TOWLRAG but hey, that just ain't a jeep.
I don't see anything at all wrong with having a comfortable ridin vehicle. I don't know about you but I am not about to go out and rock climb in a brand spankin new, warranteed $40K vehicle. Before I did something like that, one of two things will happen
1. I hit the lotto
2. I'll spend considerably less on a beater jeep and wheel that

But it isn't just the vehicle that's made for comfort anymore that is making the switch to IFS. I can see the people that want a carlike ride but still want 4x4 for rare occasions, but I don't understand why it is making it's way into the vehicles like the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. If the solid is so much more durable, why are they going away from it on trucks that the people who buy them could probably care less about ride quality and would expect a stiffer ride?
