Ok, put about 400 miles on my new Wrangler this weekend. Well, not new. It's a 95, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. It's got more power and gets better mileage than my 93 Toyota 4 cylinder did, so I'm really impressed. It drives awesome and came with that soundbar thingy that goes by the roll bar, so the stereo sounds fine until about 70. Now all I have to do is buy a receiver hitch and a bike rack and I'll be set!

Yeah, lots of people warned me about how gutless it is, but I've been driving a 200,000 mile Toyota 4cyl for the last 6 years so compared to that, it's much better. I can even go the speed limit in 4th gear uphill! Yay! That's all I need, though when I've got my dirt bike on the back, that *may* slow me down a bit. Oh well.

It's a Rio Grande so it has nice seats and stuff. The interior looks practically new, and the soft top it came with also looks brand new. I have to replace the radiator and tires but that's it.

The seam along the top of the rad leaks. It's all grody inside too so I just ordered a new one. Got some good mechanic friends next door to my office who always give me great prices and do a good job.

As for tires, when I get ready to do that, I will definitely be posting about it. Right now I don't want to lose too much of the power/mileage so 31x10.50s are as big as I'll go, if that. I'm also on a budget so if I can get some decent all terrain (have had GREAT luck with BFGs) for under $100 each, I'll be happy. I'll just run these for the summer and start looking when it's time to worry about snow.

I've yet to run BFGs but I had great experience with Yokohama Geolander A/T+II in 30x9.50 size and if I remember correctly I got my set for about $93 a tire in Western Washington. That was in 2003 but I put over 13000 miles on those tires before I traded in the vehicle and they still looked brand new.

You will be fine with 31-10.50 on stock rims no lift. if it rubbs when turning one direction simply put a washer under the offending sides steering stop and it will solve the problem. I noticed the biggest power loss between 31 inch and 32 inch tires. Don't fall into the endless pit of hp upgrades for the 2.5 only thing worth doing is a free flow filter and 4.o throttle body. Beond that gears will solve the power problem... Good luck.

Hmm, good to know about the filter/TB option. I wasn't going to spend assloads of $$ on it as it's a daily driver not a project. 30x9.50s are a good size, i'm told.

Now what about gears? I don't even know what it is stock. What do you change it to?
