I was on my way over to Bend

when I had a sudden loss of power and I could smell gas. Pulled over and gas had leaked out the gas cap all over the body. There was a loud hissing coming from the gas cap, so I took it off to relieve the pressure and it kept on hissing. It hissed on and off and eventually after 1 beer's time it stopped.

I've never heard of such a thing, is my gas cap bad? I know my fuel filter needs to be replaced, but I don't think that could be the problem... or could it???

I put the cap back on and I drove home babying it and it's been running completely normal. I even stopped and went on a couple of trails with no problems, but then again I never went full throttle. Any experts on the fuel system?

Sounds like your gas tank is not venting properly. Run down all the hoses in and out of the tank and see if one is binding on something. Not sure what else to tell you on your vapor lock problem, this is quite common in the mountians during summer time. We used to keep beer in our VW's, and save one to dump on the fuel pump when we locked up. And yes go ahead and change that fuel filter could be 50% of the problem.

Been driving the BRONCO around this week with absolutely no problems. It was only about 100+ when I was climbing up the mountains for about 50 miles, so I've diagnosed it as a freak occurrence due to extreme heat and stress from constant climbing.
