I have a chance to buy an '88 Bronco II XLT 4x4 with all the options. It has the 2.9 EFI V6 with the auto trans. Can anybody tell me what kind of problems could be expected with this truck? I need something to run around in as a daily driver and need to know if this is worth getting into.

Well, the auto trans is an issue if you wheel it. But, since you want it as a daily driver, you can add a large tranny cooler and should be okay for awhile. The auto hubs are "interesting" to say the least, but they can be easily changed out for manual hubs. Again, they should be fine for a daily driver. You most likely have the electric t-case, which has some issues. Some info on how to fix it (and a bunch more info) can be found here:

The 2.9 motor is known to have issues with leaky valve covers and a tendency to waste the heads. The 2.9 is not a torque motor and rather likes running over 3000 RPM before it starts moving right along. Which is a good thing for a daily driver.

With all that said, do I feel it is worth getting?? DEFINATELY!!! These little things have a TON of potential and can easily be resold for more than you buy them for with a minimum amount of work. If I didn't have so many dåmned many vehicles already, I would already own one or two of them...and probably try to get that one from you!
