It's an 05 Wrangler X and since I'm a potential customer (wink, wink, nudge, nudge) they let me have it for the weekend.

This one stickers for 24k but with the add ons they raised it to 28k. Not in this lifetime! They think I'm made of money or something I guess. I guess since they saw my Avy they were think "cha-ching"!

BTW, did I mention this came off the showroom floor? It's fun but not 24k fun. I have to admit, we took it out with the doors and top off yesterday and that could have made a really strong selling point. Even my rather reserved wife was squealing with delight this morning when I found that reaaalllly deep, reaaaaalllly long mud puddle on a back country easement road.

Pros - really quick and nimble and extremely fun to drive. There is no describing how driving with no top and doors feels. Steering is tight and handles well going into and out of corners at regular highway speeds. The hard top and full doors seal really well as I found out at the car wash when there was NO leak whatsoever. Fold and tumble have been changed to include a higer back and built-in head rest. The switch to fold the seat has been relocated up by the headrest. Back seat folds and tumbles with ease and does not conflict with the front seats. With the back seat up, you can still slide the front seats all the way back for p-l-e-a-n-t-y of leg room.

Cons - needs 4.10 gears with the oversized tires and no cruise control. Also, as mentioned, way overpriced. Top is cumbersome to remove with the 6 star bolts and two front clasps. Feels crowded for us bigger boys. Back seat is useless and is pretty much there for looks. Adequate power with the 4.0 but with the stock gears, it does not transfer to the road well. Feels sluggish and OD needs to be deactivaed until about 60 mph.

I had an Unlimited Rubicon with Hard top at $27500. Almost pulled the trigger. Same white color.

The TJ that you drove: they aren't the stock wheels and tires. The X package comes with the 6 and 4 pizza cutters for wheels. This would assist in the mis-gearing problem.

You are right on with the leg room in the front. The TJ has more than the YJ. I'm swearing that my next Jeep will be a TJ. Although they are going to be redone following the 06 model year. So get them now before the IFS arrives!

I got the Rubi U down to 26499 but with the roll in from my Xj, I just cant swing the payment combined with the payment on the Avy right now. (sigh) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif Maybe one of these days..........

Trucks and Jeeps are high dollar down here. I can buy cars all day long for change but you get a truck missing a headlight and rolling on three wheels and it's gold. We are in the process of selling the house so I figure I'll get one soon enough - maybe. Good news is now the wife is on board with modding the Jeep after playing in the 05 X so it's all good. She's even talking about the removing the door mod! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I can lift, go with some 265's and other stuff but I was SPECIFICALLY told to "get some nurf bars" (came over Yahoo I.M. like that). Im all jazzed again now. I'm surfing for lift kits as we speak /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Weird thing is after I got back in the XJ after riding in that rough little thing, I realized just how much I missed the XJ.

For some reason, I was not aware he sold a kit. Hell, I've only been on here three years. You think I'm supposed to know everything? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif I'll PM him and get a price.

On that RE you have, did you have to do anything other than what came with the kit? SYE? Anything else?

Edit: Dang! He's got a whole store. Obviously I have had a self cranial / rectal cohabitation for the past 3 years. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

FSIZE can tell you exactly what you need but here goes:

one each side - 4 Degree shim under the leafs in the rear to adjust rear diff pinion angle-yours will prolly need the same shim but take the measurement to be sure.

Advanced Adapters Heavy Duty Slip Yoke Eliminator

Tom Woods' CV driveshaft. Expect to be w/o a rear shaft for one week or so while you await delivery of the new, longer shaft

shocks as they are not included as part of the kits any longer

Personally, I would pass on the RE discos that come with the kit in favor of the new RE GEN2 discos. Although I have no experience with them, they look as if they would be alot quieter than the old style. Ask F/SIZE if you can order the kit w/ the new discos rather than the old.

Before ordering the kit- visit the RE website and download the install PDF. I have read alot of complaints about the RE instructions but I found them to be straightforward and very detailed.

I've put nearly 50K on my lift and it is holding up very well. I do need some new shocks though and I'll get them after this weekend's wheeling trip.

Holy Cow John! How many miles do you put on your rig a year. Didn't you just put the lift in like a year ago? Do you ever turn it off to let her breath or are you just having too much fun driving it and don't want to stop.

I've been down to our dealer in town to just look at the unlimited. Get a kick out of them, though. Dropped mine off for some work and figured I'd kill time in the showroom. I had to ask twice to get someone to come down and talk to me about it and then even then all I got was a brochure and him telling me they aren't moving as fast as he thought they would. Didn't even offer a test drive or anything so I decided to not even waste my time there.

Is that due to them going across the border? One of the guys I worked with down at our Mexico plant said that after a vehicle is ten years old, it can be brought across from the states with minimal taxation. I know the one he was driving was a Ford Ranger and it was brought from a dealer in Florida.

I've got the stealer here down to 23400 for the Rubi Unlimited.

I may drive to MD to pick one up at the end of the year when they are dumping the 2005s. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/40BEER.gif

Hmmmm, think I'll just go with a BB and some 30's for now and do it right next year so I can have time to acquire all the needed parts w/o breaking the bank. I like your setup and probably going to copy you........

[/ QUOTE ]

I offered my RE 2" BB a couple times on here when the topic of someone looking for a cheap lift alternative came up but noone was interested. I finally threw it on E-bay this last week for 70 bucks. I'm selling it with the country springs I had in place of the spacers, though, since I may find a use for the spacers down the road.

So i guess it made no sense to offer them here if Stump had his eyes, well...

But I get your point.

I live in Kaufman. IS that price from Randall-Noe good or not? He said it was $100 over invoice and it already has the 1750 rebates in it. Of course I may go 72 months so I would lose 250 in rebates.

Which Dealership are you with? I couldn't find any other in Dallas with them - Huffines, Dallas Jeep, Etc.

Let me know - post, pm or email.

remind me not to let you borrow a Jeep for the weekend. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/40BEER.gif

I would have done the same thing though.... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
