hi guys!! i've been away for a couple of years during which time i had a discovery for a while & and for the last year an xj cherokee that i built up. the xj is great but i've owned so many sami's over the years that i can't seem to stay away!! i've found 2 that i'm considering---both convertibles & both already have spoa but need new springs--probably do yj spring conversion. one has a 4.3 v-6 & 200r4 automatic but has been not so well cared for but with some work & money could be a nice zuk. the other i've only seen pics of but seems nice--1.6 liter 16v mpfi with 6 point cage, 4.16 tc gears, power steering, removeable hardtop etc.--neither one has lockers or what i consider decent tires. i can buy the v-6 for $500 less, plus i would have to pay around $900 to have the 1.6 shipped to me. i would be doing quite a bit of interstate driving, towing it behind my camper, & some hard-core off roading in tennessee where i have some property. what do ya'll think would be my best bet?? any input appreciated!! btw will have a nice, capable xj for sale if you know anyone looking for one!!
thanks

I would go with the 16v . There are a few good 4.3 installs around .But they are few and far between . In my experience with the v-6 sammis (4.3) they seem to be front end heavy . Welcome back to the zuk world .

The 4.1 case should put you almost back to stock interstate speed/rpm. You do not want mine if you drive a lot of interstate, 65 mph is 3600rpm, and still pulls till you get scared.

In reply to:

would the 1.6 maintain interstate speed with the stock 3.73 gearing, the 4.16 tc gears & trxus 31x10.50 mt's do you think??

I drove my '88 from NJ to NC (500 miles) at ~70 mph with no problems at all, and it was a 16.L 8 valve, turning 31"x10.5" with stock T-case and diffs.
