Nope, not slamming my zook (such blasphemy!), just 'lowering' my gear ratio finally! I just ordered my calmini 4.16 rockcrawlers, a lockrite for the front, and some birfield rings to complement it! Yeah, I can't wait for 'em to arrive! I've been running 33's on stock gearing for some time, and I'm long overdue for a little lowered gear ratio. Next, I will scrounge me up some 5.12's to complete my gearing. Then I might even be able to use 5th gear again!! Bluecrawler is shipping me a spare carrier that I'm gonna weld up and slap in the rear, so I should be locked all around before long, with a bit more torque to push it all! I ordered it all from NCO, and Tim seemed to be really cool! He doesn't charge you the gear core charge so long as you pay via credit card and return him your stockers within 30 days! Bonus!

Thanks for listening to me jump around in glee!

I've got the same and I think the motor is screaming at 65 MPH. Definatly lost some of the top speed. But then again I have a 94 tranny with the different 5th ratio. That may have a impact on it.

Geez, Zooky, you're GRSII and 5.12. How do you do it?

From what I can figure if you change out the t-case to 4.16 or anything simular, you won't hardly even notice the gear reduction in 4WD DRIVE HIGH. Now in four low there is a differnce. I thought this was because there is little differnce between the 4.16 high and the stock high gear. I could be wrong. And from what is understand if you want to see a notciable difference go with R&P then get the t-case done. What do you all think?

Well For a GRS1 type the high-end reduction is around 12%
Make it about right for 30" tires. The 4.16 of course refers to the reduction in Lowrange.

You can look at my signature below and see the engine combo I currently run. With this set-up I can pull 5th gear easily uphill with three passengers. I plan on 33's sometime this summer and personally think 5.12/5.38's would be too low for highway driving. I am going to install a set of 4.57 R&P's, locker in front, and a welded diff in the rear first to see what kind of results I get from this set-up. At that time if I need a little lower gear I will then go with the 4.16 t-case gears.

Hey thanks! Did you have your bearings pressed onto your gears professionally, or did you do it yourself somehow?

pressed the bearings on myself with a large socket, a short 1X4, and a hammer... not hard to do at all, but its easier with 2 people (one to hold the gears and bearings and socket, and the other to use the hammer and 1X4)... get a rubber mallet, it comes in handy

let me know if you have any more questions

A thirty pack of Keystone?!!! Doesn't that cost about $6.95?!!! I dunno man, you're a bit steep! HAHA! ;^). Hey, that sounds like a deal. The gears are supposed to be here early next week, so I will pester you then. Hey, can your press work on my birfield's?
