I'm sorry to say it, but it seems to be a Jeep made for soccer moms. [/list]

I have Liberty special addition. Very disappointed on ice and snow ---2 wheel drive and part time or full time 4 wheel drive make virtually no difference. Non traction wheel just spins. Is this system this unsophisticated?

What kind of driving technique are you using? I've been having zero problems with my KJ driving in the rain/snow/ice. I'm getting no spinning of the non traction wheel and no slipping that I don't expect on those type of road conditions. I've seen various responses and explanations on this issue on various KJ boards but they all seem to boil down to driving technique. No drive system, 2WD or 4WD, is going to work properly if you don't adjust your technique to the road conditions.

I gotta warn ya, if you know someone who is SUV shopping, tell them not to drive a Liberty or they will be writing a check. They're gonna love it. I have a 2002 Liberty which I have come to love. It is smoother and quieter than my Cherokee which I loved first. (it went 100,000 miles without one major problem). The Liberty comes with the 16" tires and they were meant to be quieter on the highway (which I appreciate) then the factory supplied Wrangler tires which were on my Cherokee. I have to say that the tires on the Liberty DO NOT have as good traction in turning on snow as the Wrangler tires on the Cherokee. The first time I made a quick turn in snow with the Liberty I got a big surprise. If someone lives in an area where they will get a lot of snow, frequently during the winter, I would suggest they switch at least the front tires to the Wranglers from Goodyear.

This is America and I suppose we gotta let the nardos spew their negative nonsense. However, the JEEP is an American legend. Invented out of necessity to help win World War II and then domesticated for the civilian use. Ranchers and sportsmen were buying up the wagon style Jeeps long ago, in the 1940's, and every penny made from them went to fund further research and developement which has made the Jeep one of the most imitated vehicles in the market. No matter how many doors it has it is still a Jeep where it counts. My first Jeep was a 1993 Cherokee. It went 108,000 miles with only one trip to the dealer, under warranty, for a leak in the front differential. The second Cherokee a 1998, went 104,000 with not one trip to the dealer before I traded for my Liberty. Both Cherokees took us on ski trips to Northern WI where sometimes the snow was drifted higher than the front bumper but they cut right through it without getting stuck once. Many times my "wagon" clawed its way home through freezing &%$@# rain while passing numerous other vehicles stuck in the ditch. (I live in WI and March is one nasty month.) Jeeps in various sizes and forms have won numerous awards from various magazines, so if someone comes to this BB spouting nonsense, ya gotta know they are one the brainwashed foreign vehicle loving dorks who help send Americans jobs to other countries.

Actually no. I have owned 2 jeeps, as you can see in my pic. I still have the grey one, 180k and climbing, sold the GC cause the wife wanted a van so we got a Grand Caravan. I have owned only one foriegn car in my life and that was an 82 Mazda 626, damn fine car till the motor puked, to expensive to fix. The other 7 have been mopars. I am sorry to say, I test drove a KJ and aside from the fact they are BUTT ugly, they suck in every other way I can list. I was not impressed in anyway and would not waste my money on one even if they offered it with a 1,000,000% warranty and only wanted fifty bucks. That is not to say that if you like it you shouldn't get one or have one. I am a true believer "to each his own", BUT, they are not as capable offroad (no matter how much they misrepresent them in the commercials), IFS will always suck no matter what vehicle it is under, and again as before, I personaly think they are BUTT UGLY. With all that said, I would still rather see any one of you supporters of the ugly thing, in one, rather than in one of those other foriegn jeep imitating peices of $h!t.

At least my soccer mom, butt ugly Liberty got round headlights. Thanks for saying you would rather see me in it than one of the Jeep wannabes from across the pond. I'd like to see a party where we take Jeep pretenders and melt them down to make wrought iron railings and yard furniture. We could start by renting a crane and hoisting them about 500 feet in the air before we release them. Whadda ya say bout dat????

Jeep is owned by a German company. You ARE sending the profits over seas. Daimler is the controlling side of Daimler/Chrysler, and Jeep is now owned by Chrysler...

I have owned two Jeeps, both 77's produced under AMC. One was a CJ-5 and the other a Cherokee. Loved both of them, though they were expensive to work on.

As someone pointed out in another post, there is no one perfect off-road vehicle. It depends on what you build your vehicle to do.

Also, I drove a friends Liberty the other day and I liked it. I don't think I would buy one as it does not do anything I want it to, but I would certainly not discount them as unworthy. They do what they are designed to do and the inherent limitations imposed by the stock form can be changed as there are aftermarket mods to be had.

Ah well, to each their own. I love my Liberty and wouldn't trade it for a fully paid off vehicle of any kind. It goes where I want it to, on or off road, when I want it to.

BUT, they are not as capable offroad (no matter how much they misrepresent them in the commercials)

Is that a fact? Based off of what data? A stock Liberty will take on a stock anything else in the environment it was designed to handle. (There is no point in discussing MODs because that changes everything about the vehicle and what it will handle.) It won't climb rocks like a TJ, but it turn some corners other jeeps couldn't dream of turning and it'll blow a TJ away in the sand. I know, I've gone neck to neck against TJs in the sand and my KJ blows them away every time. TJs were designed to climb rocks, KJs were designed for other off road challanges. Then they give a fairly comfortable ride ON road, something that ain't NEVER gonna happen in a TJ. As to the Liberty being butt ugly, so what? I like it that way, matches my face. Besides I don't recall CJs, TJs, etc... winning any beauty contests.
Image
Do I hate TJs? Hell no, I own one. I use it for rocks and such and my Liberty for everything else. So I'm basing my opinions off owning and driving both makes and not off a test drive.

Like you said "to each their own".

This is my first winter with my KJ and I'm loving it! The Select Trac is a joy! I've never owned or even driven a Full Time 4-WD vehicle and I look forward to huge dumps of snow now where I never use to. I'm enjoying my Jeep so much that I'm awaiting the arrival of my new TJ as we speak. My KJ goes off-roading once a week and the last time I went, I went everywhere my buddy with his Grand Cherokee went. I even went up a steep slope with no drama whereas he lost his Jeep and slid downward and impaled his sidewall with a branch. It sure made for a good laugh. He's a die hard Jeep owner and really happy that I've also seen the light. To each his own but color me Jeep!!

I've got the OEM Goodyear SRA's. Because my Renegade is primarily my daily commuter and weekender, I will most likely stick with A/Ts. I'd really like to put a set of M/Ts but I'll first wear out the originals before dropping more cash and see just how much more 'wheeling I'm going to be doing with the Liberty. It may not be practical for my purposes.

you liberty guys crack me up, the one guy talon said if he gets into offroading he'd get a wrangler and go all out, with a body lift? you guys really dont know what performance is do you. you know your just a tiny little step from driving a honda crv or a ford escape.

the jeep technology your talking about went into the wranglers and cjs, not xjs and definately not kjs, of course some knowledge was used but id say the biggest influence that those jeeps had on xjs and kjs is the 7slot grill. dont get me wrong the xjs kick some serious a$$ and after my cj is done being built i think ill prolly buy one and slap a 6in SUSPENSION lift on it with some 33 in mt bajaclaws. but you liberty guys cant possibly think that they are worth a d**n off road, i dont care that they have been tested onthe rubicon, take a subaru wrx to that trail, you never know its 4wd it might be able to do it too.

You Yj wrangler guys crack me up! That talon guy said if he gets into offroading he'd get a wrangler and "I guess I'll pick up a Wrangler and go nutz with mods (ie. susp. lift, armour, body lift, mud terrain tires, etc.)." Those wrangler guys really don't know what performance is with their 4 bangers, sprung overs and 35"+ tire and no regearing. You know a wrangler is just a tiny step away from a tracker.

Their, I fixed your incorrect posts for you, start another thread and I'll gladly argue what is innovative and what rig has it and what rig was made as a stopgap.

Why on the commercial do you need 4wd to go over a few 4x4 timbers and that litle dirt pile? As far as the remark about the liberty ripping the XJ a new one Any day you wanna put you money where you mouth is let me know.
