I need to replace my mailbox and I thought I would let any passer-byers know that I Jeep.
I havent seen anyone make anything like this but I thought it may be neat if I paint it like my Jeep and do a nice job on the "cage"
let me know if you ever seen this or did I actually have an original idea /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I like your design. I would add one thing. Make the lid to look like a CJ grill...then your all set/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif...

All around a great concept...

I havent painted my Jeep yet but I guess I can make a wish on the color. I also have a line on some odd hardware that a buddy has for it.

Waaaaaaayyyy cool idea! I hate to be a stickler, but check to make sure your Hood catch/door latch is USPS approved. They may not deliver your mail if the box isn't "Correct"...and we all know how uppity postal workers can get!/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

I like the idea of tires but I wanted to be suttle enough so that only Jeep kindof people will pick up on it and every one else will just scratch thier heads.

Thanks , (more input Im ready to start)

you could also paint some jeepchicks on the sides.....what about copper pipe insulation for the nurf bars? they have some really small diameter tubing...what about copper pipe??

big,mean,loud,fast,and oh so pretty. /wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif

You could use some small PVC pipe for the nerf bars, just use two 90 degree elbows, PVC glue it together and spray-paint black. With a little creativity you can make the rollbar using PVC too (but it might have to look kore like a FJ-40's rollbar

My friend has a jeep mailbox that someone locally made for them. It starts with the general issue mailbox but has a wind sheild, hard top and wheels made out of wood attached. It was seen at flea markets and someone bought it for him. You can order it in your paint tone.
(Wish I had a pic. to attach)

1/4" tubing for nerf/roll bars (easy to bend w/tube bender), mud grip tires off of a Tonka truck, plexiglass for windshield. take a look in the toy stores on the car/truck aisle, lots of 4x trucks come with plastic roll bars, steering wheels, bumpers, etc. to get really creative, small battery setup with solar charger and two small voltage auto accessory lights in the front flap for headlights.

I thought about some off road lights on the roll bar and even thought about wiring them into the dust to dawn lights to run them but we'll see.
I want to stay away from a box that actually looks like a Jeep (EI windshield, wheels, tires...) and make one that has the effects of a Jeep so mostly Jeep people will catch it.
But thats just me,

BiggJim wrote "...make one that has the effects of a Jeep so mostly Jeep people will catch it." Maybe a little rust, some sheetmetal damage and never being 0 complete. I think Jeepers could associate with that. Great idea BiggJim I can not wait to see a pic of the finished product.

why not mount the mailbox using the rollcage upside down??? /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/shocked.gif That'd be something only jeepster's would understand...
