technicly noferther than the outer moust portion of the body which is usaly the fenders/flares (the body must be a real body not a peice of sheet metal welded to the side that is 1" wide and 0.3" thick just as an example) thats how it is in california any ways. and i think probly most other places also

'95 jeep yj 2" body lift to fit 31's and soon to have a new suspention lift. you cant own a jeep and not "modify" it :)

Here in PA we're allowed to have the cross section protrude but the tread must not break the plane of the outer most piece of the fender.

It varies from state to state. Here in Kentucky there is no restriction. Kentucky Revised Statues Chapter 189 covers all the vehicle regulatory reqirements basicly says you need a rear view mirror, safety glass, and a muffler. I love it here.

Yeah, its not suppose to stick out, but in So. Cal, there are lowriders that have thier tires sticking out as much as 4 inches farther then supposed too, as well as HUGE lifted Chevies and Fords with tires sticking as much as 10 inches out from the body... Its wierd. Its like the BIG trucks at pismo driving on the street, and no one seems to care...

I love Jeeps.....
I love the Rubicon.....
I love Pismo....
What more is there to say?

Here in Alaska, the only law I know of pertaining to lifts/tires is that if the vehicle is not of stock height that it must have mudflaps. My 10.00 x 15 Dunlop Dune Tractions (came with the rig, I'm upgrading to to BFG MT/KMs in 33x10.50 in the spring) stick out about 3 inches on each side with the white spoke wagon wheels I'm running (no fender flares--I'm going to put some on this winter). Coat the windows, roof and hood nicely whenever I walk on it in the mud, but since she is stock height, I'm legal without mudflaps. Had a few smokies give me the funny look as I went by (they may have been wondering how I could see out as dirty as I got a couple times!), but nobody has ever bothered me. Just today as I was coming back from a trash run, I was behind a late '70s Dodge flatbed running about 12" or so of lift and about 44" tractor tires (you know, like the ones Bigfoot had on in "Take this job and Shove it!"). We went right by a couple of city cops and they didn't even blink--he had mudflaps, but the tires had to stick out at least 6" on a side.

As far as I know here in Tennesse they don't care. Folks drive around Memphis all the time with not one part of the tire stickin under the fenderwell, 4x4 and lowrider cars. My tires stick out from the CJ about 1", 1 1/2" maybe, but if I put fender flares on they wouldn't. OH well, don't feel like, plus don't have the funds.

Well on the way home from work I got pulled over again.. But the cop was all cool and asked where I was playin cause it was covered in mud like always. All he said was to clean myside windows and mirrors so I can see out them. He never mentioned anything about half my tires sticking out from my body. So I guess it's all cool...

Basically i think it matter from state to state, a lot of the southern states, teh cops dont care to much. But they still have a law for it. Just remember, dotn piss of the cop if your rig is illigal, because then he will just be looking to write you a ticket. Peace
