everybody spends money on their trucks...and by reading some of the posts...ALOT OF MONEY!!!!!!
how do you guys justify the time and money you put in to the truck to your spouses/girlfriends/boyfriends? ....only to break it again!!!
my favorite two are:
1) well, its for you to enjoy as well...just because you dont like to off-road is not my problem.
and 2) if iraq invaded again would'nt you like to know that there is a means of transportation out of here even if there are road blocks!!!
LOL....lets hear some excuses!!!

My dad has no interest in modifying cars or trucks (even though he grew up in Detroit in the muscle car 60's and my uncle owned a bunch of them, GGGGRRROOOOWWLLL) and my mom thinks I should be more careful and reserved with my truck, although she does appreciate a good ol' muscle car, or a nice looking corvette, and she does drive all the family trucks to work. I just say it like this, "Dad, it's this drive you feel. To make your truck/car bigger/faster/look better/more fun/just to change it from stock. I feel sorry for you that you have never felt it." He still argues with me that OEM isn't the peak performance you can get form a vehicle reasonably. My mom just keeps quiet, but I know she likes my truck. I took them offroading a while back, mom liked it, but dad's neck hurt. Of course, if he hadn't sat stiff as a board through the entire, bumpy trip it wouldn't of. Really, I don't justify it, I just try to explain the feeling about it. I think the same feeling that drives me to lift my truck, makes a guy build a 32 Tudor with a fully independent suspension and Corvette running gear, some guy builds a hopping 64 Impala, some kid to put a box in the trunk and enough bass to rattle my window's a half mile away, and even....dare I say it.....some kid to put a 1.8L Accura in place of the 1.6L in his Honda. I hope my little diatribe has helped some. I get misty eye'd during the Fourth of July parade when the muscle cars go by.

Here's what I did. First you have to figure out how to get your wife, girl friend, boy friend excited about going offroad. Do they like their friends to go? Do they like mud, rocks, family affair? Then you take them on several easy rides you know your truck will do fine. Then increase the difficulty of the next rides keeping everyone happy. Finally, get as far off the beaten path as possible and let it all hang out. Something will brake or you'll get stuck. After that long walk or evening in the forest, that companion will be saying, "we ain't coming out here again until you fix that P.O.S!!!!!!! Worked for me!!!!! Steve

I just ask the the wife how I'm supposed to get her to the top of the next big hill without better tires and more power. Also stress the safety issue, if it will make your ride safer in even the most minute way it is a selling point to the wife. Works for me.

Well, I'm 19, so I'm still at the age where my parents will pay for the more importan mods. One time in my old truck I had an exhaust leak. Well I went to the local muffler shop, had them put true dual's, FLowmaster. my mom got the bill and said "SOn, I thouth it was just a leak" I said yea, "but stupid mr. clinton passed stricter emission laws, So now with my new exhaust my truck will pass inspection." she said" OH, ok" Or othertimes I will say, " yea, its more expensive but this baby will last another 10yrs."

well, im still a young college kid so the only reason i even have a job right now is to buy more stuff for my truck /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif but anyways...my excuse to justify is that anyone who drives a completely stock vehicle thinks of it as nothing but transportation. i said my truck has to be "unique, stand out, and have a personality of its own /wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif" i just tell my parents its an investment! the only problem i ever have is my girlfriend complains cause i spend more money on my truck than her! oh well /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Well, I guess I'm a lucky man. I spent about $6000 into my truck in less than a year and that is not including the cost of the truck alone. To make things worst, I don't think I've spend more than maybe a couple hundred dollars on my girlfriend and I have been seeing her for over 2yrs! She pretty much pays for eveverything when we go out and my excuse is I'll make it up to you I promise. Works so far, but probably not much longer. Gotta think of some better excuses.

You gotta just keep givin' her some good lovin' and maybe a card or flowers every now and then Boss. Works for me and I'm in a situation real similar to yours. Oh yeah, and let her drive the truck every now and then/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif. My girlfriend just loves pullin' up next to some yuppie in his brand new shiny SUV and looking down from my lifted, Flowmastered Yukon/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif... Especially when it's muddy/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif.

My girlfriend only goes wheeling with me about half of the time. In general, I'll only replace stuff at this point if it's broken or gives me any problems. However, it's along the lines of "If I repalce this broken axleshaft with a stock one, it'll just break again, so I'm going to get a chromoly one. And so long as I'm in there, I might as well replace the other one! And the two stub shafts might as well be replaced too, because after all, they're attached to the axleshafts." She knows that I love my truck and four wheeling, so she's pretty tolerant so long as I don't spend the rent or the grocery money on truck parts. And I let her know often that she's more important to me than the truck.

Just say something outrageous like "If I didn't have the truck I would just spend my money on something else....Like beer and an extra girlfriend." Actually my wife of almost ten years is pretty happy that I'm not out partying at the bars, so that makes keeping the truck ok!

4 boys in the family so parents let us have what we want but we have to pay for it (i don't get anything but shelter from them)
as for gf haven't had a worth while one in the last 4 years
so i just have to justify it to myself really
which means it must cover one of two things
it'll look cooler or it will have more power:)

I just told my wife that I needed another truck was would be reliable and cheap to fix or get parts for. So far so good. I have another truck of a different brand that I won't mention the brand that has cost me twice as much as this one so far. I was only going to change the cab on this new truck and put 33's on it but now I keep telling her the same thing the Shaggy says. I might as well put 38' on it they are not that much more money. In stead of rebuilding my Q-jet it would make more sense to buy and Eldebrock./wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

Oh, I got the massage technique down pack, don't you worry about that. I must be a pretty lucky dude though, b/c I go party at the bars and get drunk with the fellas a lot with and with out her and she still sticks around. As far as letting her drive the truck, hmm, don't know about that. She might hit somebody or do some major damage to my truck. Well, you never know, she might like it...Good idea dude. But yeah, I do need to find some better lines.

OK, I got the opposite problem!/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif I can't get my wife out of the truck, she loves it. and the bigger and tougher the better! (this is our 5th 4X4 project together)./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif I let her use it during the week cause her work is about 2 miles from our house, and mine is about 15 each way, and that 454 can really suck down the gas/wwwthreads_images/icons/frown.gif, so I drive the S15 Jimmy (4X4 of course/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif). But on weekends it's all mine. I seldom have to justify any money spent on our trucks, and on the rare times I do, I just point out how much money I save us, by doing all the work and maintenance to our vehicles myself./wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

I guess I got it good. My wife doesn't complain as long as their is food on the table. I repair our cars and trucks and all 4 are paid for. Her way of looking at it is it's cheaper to let me do what I want (then she swipes it) than to pay a car note. She wheels with me and occasionaly she even drives when we off road. Now she wants to off Road her K5 right behind me on the trail. I keep having to explain NO yours is getting fixed up and made nice I don't want to tear it up anymore (it already has serious trail rash). She can drive mine off road anytime she wants and she knows it.
Hers: 79 K5 Blazer Loaded with working A/C. 350 crate, Built TH350, Locker, Duals with Flowmasters, Alpine stereo, 2 Fosgate amps, 2 12 inch bostwics in a 5th order band pass box.
Soon to have late 80's clip, Pantom Grill, Fresh Black paint, and custom interior.
Mine 75 K5 Jimmy stipped to the bone interior everything but the motor has been rebuilt. Manual everything, no A/C (other than the wind when the top is off and she swipes it then LOL)
Mine Daily 89 Supra Targa. Sony CD and some Bazookas. ( every chance she gets she grabs the keys)
Mine to be burried in: 70 Pontiac Lemans Sport convertable with big block. currently down for restoration but she keeps complaining to get it fixed so she can cruise it with the girls LOL.
Now if I could just get her to change the oil!
LOL

It's simple. I keep telling everyone I can't do drugs, I have to support my wheeling addiction.

The wife is great. Been married going on 7 years and she supports me on anything, she also likes taking the jeep out and showing it off. "But honey...", says I, "...the lockers tear up the Swampers on the road". "We can get new ones" she says, a woman after my own heart. But seriously, we have no kids (just 5 jeeps, 2 cats, a dog, and a rabbit) and this is the main hobby, so we might as well enjoy life, after all, what are both of us working so hard for? I also like to tinker, doing all the mods myself, and it keeps me out of her hair. Buy her her very own vehicle and see how fast she responds. All of a sudden hers has to be as good as, or better than, yours.

Oh yeah, as far as her driving it, she can't even climb into it without help. I have tried to get her behind the wheel several times, but with the seat all the way forward she just barely reaches the pedals.
