Well i just got a new job at a jeep dealership. I am a porter person, getting paid $8/hour. Not to bad since that is a 20% more than my old job. Looks like i might be able to get headers in the next coming weeks. Only bad thing, i will have to join a union. I hope i can squeeze my way out of it since i will only be working 19hrs a week. Will see.

Here is the scenario, i will only join the union if i get more pay only because i am 18, work only 19hrs a week, and im not full time. I figure maybe like $1 or $2 more an hour and that should cover the union dues. I dont know much about unions, so i will be looking into it.

I am a brother in the IBEW local 47. Unions take a percent of your pay for dues. You dont appreciate a union until it comes time for a pay increase or your about ready to get your ass fired. I pay 103.00 a month for union dues. Be happy youre not paying my dues.

Yukon, you ask for more money, they will tell you to take a hike and find somebody else, not exactly a difficult job to do.

72, a porter is somebody that drives the dealers cars around, here and there and everywhere.

hmm. and why would you need a porter person? you mean to drive the car from the lot to the sales office? salesmen too lazy to do that? sorry, i'm just not following.

lol! you just started and already you want a raise? you should have negotiated that before signing on. but i guess it wouldn't hurt to ask. you just might get what you want. stranger things have happened.

Ok, here's what you do. If you do take the little old ladies home...

Get yourself a little sign that says "Gratuities Accepted" to put on the dash. When the lady gets out.....and has not left a tip...do that throat clearing thing, and reach over and jiggle the sign....

Oh, and don't look her right in the eye when you do it..just sort of roll them from the sign to the ceiling....LOL

That will help the raise problem/union dues./wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

Oh, you may even think about holding her lap dog hostage if she is too tight to tip......just a thought anyway. Man, am I a problem solver or what?!LOL/wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

TxFireman, have you ever worked for the mafia? good ideas witht the dog threatning stuff ehheheh. last time i worked for a dealer i had to make them give me my minimum wage raise, the basterds were so cheap they didn't want to do that (one of biggest dealers in chicagoland), but they didn't really have a choise, thats the only reason why they gave it to me.
Yukan next time you look for a job, find one that not just any joe off the street can do, the harder to find you are the better paid you get, supply and demand, just like Dana 60s and other components hehehe, ex. i got myself a B class CDL, with couple of endorsments, cost me 250? or so bucks, changed jobs and get paid nearly twice as much as i used to, granted that i also went to full time but you get the drift. im not saying make a career out of it, but if you can do something why not? and trust me on this one, the dealer no matter how much butt kissing they might be doing they don't give a crap about you, as soon as they don't need you they will fire you with a 5 min notice, so don't hazitate to quit with a 5 min notice when it suits you, i learned that the hard way.

I'm going to have to agree with YOTA. I used to make $9hr as a non union carpenter in Chicago. When I found the error in my was and joined the union, I jumped up to $30.50hr with full insurance and a pension plan! Last year as a non-union $20,000 a year. This last year in the union, $73,400. You tell me why not the union!!!!

I'd be happy to get up at 6 everyday. Instead need to be awake at 430am... And don't typically start to get ready to go to sleep until 00:00 or 00:30... Hmmmm... /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
