Hi all,

I'll apologize for the non-technical post from the start /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif, but Yes, it's actually gonna happen!! /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif A good friend and I (and our crack moonguy Jeep-repair team /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif) are quitting our jobs and spending this summer exploring the United States in a soft-top Jeep. Too many years of stressful Engineering-type-corporate-crap /wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif has burnt us out, and we need a break. /wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

We start in Massachusetts in about 2-3 weeks, and have set up a very loose plan to see it all - Myrtle Beach, Key West, New Orleans, Texas, Grand Canyon, Utah, Colorado, California, Oregon, etc., etc. ....all of it. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

We'll be in his mostly stock 95 YJ, with a 4.0, 5-spd., and a soft-top. (My 88 is a little too "rough around the edges - but in a good Jeep kinda way" for such a trip. /wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif)

We've set up an email account from which we'll send updates from around the country, from generic internet access at libraries and stuff:

[email protected]

If any of you guys would like (or care) to get an update every now and then, send an email to this account, and we'll add you to the distribution list. Probably just be a little rambling once or twice a month on things like the sights of our country, and how cool Jeeps are to live in for 5 months. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

I'm bummed that I won't get to surf the BBS at all this summer, but it seems like a good trade. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif I've been here for a few years now, through a few BBS software changes, and you guys all seem pretty cool. /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Thanks for all your ideas and thoughts, it's been a lot of fun. Hope you all have a great summer, and see you in October!!! /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif

P.S. CJDave, I hope the moonguys don't drink all our beer around the campfire! /wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif

/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif Can't you just see this.....the Jeep pulled in under a tree on a grassy spot.....moonguys/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gifbusily dropping the transfer case for quick chain replacement.....moondrink cans everywhere....Scott and his buddy kicked back in the shade chatting with the farmer's daughter. Way back....and I mean WAYYYY back there was a TV series called "Route 66", where Martin Milner and another guy were these vagabond Corvette drivers who just drove all over the USA, having adventures wherever they went. A couple of my buddies from H.S. took a '58 Vette and did that for a year....picking apples in WA....harvesting wheat in Kansas, and cutting corn in Indiana. Winter in Connecticutt was NOT kind to the vette, and there are several towns across the US that they can.....well....er.../wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gifnever go back to/wwwthreads_images/icons/blush.gif GREAT IDEA Pete! You won't regret this, and ten years from now you'll never miss the income but you'll STILL have the memories of meeting people like Lem N. Squezins, of Lem's Super Service in Dismal TN, or going into Joe's Jeep Jungle in Lastchance NM. in search of that elusive part./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif We'll be watching for news on [email protected]

Hey, I would love to be on the mailing list and hear of your adventures. I crossed the country by car four times and loved each time. Not all were for vacation so I had to hustle. But I never got to drive a Jeep any of those times. I hope you guys have a great time.
p.s.- some public libraries have access to bbs. When the internet was new that was how I accessed it, via the library. No pictures, just text.

Yeah, it would really be cool to know where you're gonna be at various stages along the way. That way maybe some of us could meet you along the way and show y'all some sights and sounds as you hit various parts of the country.
Have fun, I wish I was going.
