Jeepgod-- NC Jeepers et al

Jeepgod, in no way is this a slam on you. A BIG slam on us poor souls in NC. Went to get plates for the CJ5 today. Expected the cost to be about $75 for the yada yada this and that. $148 later I have a plate and an empty wallet! The state is broke! They can't pay teachers their cost of living! How can that be? Between Jeepgod and myself we have paid $180 in "road use taxes" on the same CJ in the past year! Funny part (disgusting) is the CJ has only been about 1900 miles since 1992. Glad we all don't have to pay 10 cents a mile to the state.

Jeepgod, how's the waggie doin? I'm beginning to miss that fuel siphon sound that resonates from under the hood.

"Legal Extortion" is the correct word.
(Saw a guy on TV, wrote that in the "memo" section of a check after being forced to pay a road tax, the state took him to court, and fined him $1000, he did it again on the check for $1000. They tossed him in prison for a bit.)

They did a great favor to everyone in Oklahoma a while ago by lowering tag prices so they are no more than 100 dollars for any vehicle.Well the excise tax went sky high.
I payed 40 dollars for my cherokee to get titled about a year ago before the law passed.I payed 120.00 today for a title transfer today :(
[censored] man I was PISSED!

You guys think that is bad here in Nevada you pay 2 percent of what the value of the vehicle is on something like my Jeep a 1980 CJ-5 it's not bad $40.00 bucks but on some thing like a newer four door Ford pick up it can be like $600.00 for a year.

Take care of the pennies and the dollars will take care of themselves.

two year ago they passed a bill in Wa. that cut reg. cost from a systen based on the value & year of your rig (could be hunderds from many $38 for my cj) to $30 for every rig. not a bad deal, and soon every body will be wheeling just to drive the roads. it needs to reasonable, but what about the roads?

148$ and your bitching cause it cost too much.Do you know how much I have to pay to plate my 88 YJ , 650 bucks Canadian I have to put my plates on monthly payments with the insurence company. Hell If I had to only pay 150 bucks I would be dancing in the street.

On LI I think I pay $18.75 a year with $10 surcharge. We register for 2yrs here, so my 90YJ cost me $47.50 for 2yrs.
I thout DMV here was a nightmare b/c of all the BS involved, you can never make just one trip here. It seems like the rules always change so you never have everything you need in one trip.
I won't bitch anymore after this thread.
Sorry!

Oh, don't get the wrong idea about my previous post before you think we have it easy here we could talk insurance rates where sometimes it costs more than a car. I know two guys paying upwards of $6,000/yr for insurance. I think one is $6500 the other is $7000.

How much is 650 canadian in us dollars?I'm just talking about changing the title over,I didn't get a new tag..well I did get a new liscense plate cause I lost mine, but they are only 10.00.
If they didn't try to trick people into voting for this crap I wouldn't be very mad..

Hey Jeff,
$43 for most vehicles. Just licensed my trailer for two years. $48. Had to license my older (1975) motorhome, $178 for two years. Plus the wife's car, my pos little parts hauler, and two CJ's. I just thank goodness we don't have to pay the tax some of these guys do. I'd have to sell everything off. Nickmil.

Yep thats right, I have to get it from an insurence company and there is only one that you can get your plates from in the entire province. 650 bucks a year and thats just the rock bottom basic coverage plan. My dad pays over 1000 bucks for his 94 dodge ram 3/4 ton 4x4. It too bad we quit farming because I could have cheated the system and said I used my jeep for hauling chemicals or fertilizer or something, then I could have gotten a farm plate and I would be paying half as much as I do now. We have a 63 dodge 2 ton that we used to haul water before we quit farming, plates were 150 now they're 680. What do you other canadian jeepers pay for plates in different provences. I'm from Saskatchewan.

I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada, we have to pay by the weight of the vehicle. It works out to like 0.04 or 0.05 cents per lb, for 2 years. My HEEP isn't licenced right now, but when it was it cost me $142 (ca. dollars)or $91.62 (us dollars). That's for 2 years.

you guys are too funny, "I have to pay an effin $120!" I think its funny, I wish I lived there... I just bought a
94 Grand Cherokee, I have to pay $825 to transfer title, and an additional $450 in october to register.
Its funny how California, one of the states with the most people, has to charge the most for the road.
I hate it!
oh well...
love the traisl and ocean!
but not the San Diego taxes!!!

Well your grand cherokee is worth a lot,so it should cost a bit more.
I told them I bought my jeep for 2,900.
I bought my cherokee, less than a year ago when b4 this law passed and payed 2,000 for it.
It just pisses me off!!120 dollars is a lot of money for a teenager in high school.
I mean 40 dollars like I payed for the cherokee was no big deal..I payed 3 times as much for something that was bought for only 900 more.

Here in Calgary, I just renew'd my licence plates at $50 per vehicle (I have 3) and because I got myself a trailer, it cost me a one time fee of $45 (plates, registration .. insurance not required) ..

My Jeep and S-10 both cost $500 each per year of insurance
My Cavalier costs me $1000 per year

Its not too bad for registration and insurance here .. insurance is not owned by the government (like BC and SK), but registration costs a bit.

BTW: personalized plates are $200 (plus taxes, registration and such) here
