Hey everyone, im new here at this site, i have a 98 5.9 and im sorry to say, im aiming to race it at a local track. High performance parts are hard to come by with my application. Mopar has alot of parts that i want but dont know if they are gonna fit correctly, I looked under Magnum 360 crate engine upgrades but again i dont know if they are gonna fit. Im looking for a new intake manifold, headers and soon to come custom vortech supercharger fabricated from a durango kit. Its gonna put out 460hp and 540 lbs ft of torque, and its gonna sprint to 60 in under 5 seconds. ive seen a local guy's supercharged 5.9 do it, with M5killa on his plates. What are your thoughts on this.. well im glad I signed up and hope to hear from all you guys.

Welcome to the board! As athlonaj stated we are more into the off-road aspect of Jeeps, but you have a killer speed freak there with the 5.9 limited! My next "Street Jeep" will be one of those, the prices have finaly come down enough to afford one, but they are still very scarce! I hope we can help, but since not many Jeeps came with the 360 Dodge motor, you might also try the Dodge Trucks page on this board for performance tips for your engine. Good luck, and keep it safe!
(P.S., No flames from me 'cause I'm an EX Drag Racer)

I'm all with smokin on this one. Do it. Any fast car is a good car. We probably can't help you much for your application, but feel free to ask questions. Most of us have the general stuff down. Some of us have a little more.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand!

No they're not! My 5.2L ZJ with just a Flowmaster exhaust and K&N will eat most rice burners for lunch. Only exception are the turbochargers and superchargers.

Mopar Performance has some great, albeit expensive, parts for the 5.9.

Why are you looking for a new intake manifold? You have a great FI setup, I hope you're not changing to a carb. Have your intake ported and the restrictions removed at a machine shop, same with the heads. A nice cam, some roller rockers and a set of headers and free-flowing exhaust will come in quite handy. A mild NOS kit works well in these applications too. Liquid horsepower is the cheapest and most effective way to make power in any vehicle. You'd have to have your computer modified or get a Stage 3 JET chip or the Mopar computer.

Someone posted a video a while back of a ZJ smoking big-block Corvettes and a Mustang in the 1/4 mile. I think the time was 12 seconds.

not to flame your post... an intake doesnt mean going to a carb... it means possibly going to a cone filter. and NOS, most likely you dont NEED a new chip or computer, and in many vehicles thats not even an option. the chip for nos will just retard the timing a little. "liquid HP" isnt the best, it will probably kill your engine early, but a benefit is that its not always on. anywho, i'd be interested to see what the 5.9 can do. ive seen a supercharged one at the track, and WOW!

So which one is it?

You'll see more power with a chip. There is one available for your application.

NOS gives you the most HP for your $$$. Find me another $600 modification that goves you 100+HP and I'll eat my words. When used PROPERLY, nitrous will NOT destroy an engine. Yes, the engine will wear more with nitrous, but you're racing it. That alone is enough to make your engine not last as long as a street driver.

The 5.9 is a great engine, you'd be surprised as to what it can do on the street or the strip.
