It\'s not easy being green
Hey guys I've been watching this board for a while now, and have decided to jump in.
My dad had a 68 Jeepster in 73. He took my family offroading here in Colorado quite a bit in the early 70s. I remember the back seat of that rig like it was the back of my hand. So I have always had a soft spot for the Commandos. Recently I decided to get a C-101 of my own. So I bought a 71 Jeepster last week. And much to my dismay I paid way too much for it.
So now I'm looking at a engine rebuild, floorboard repair, brakes, and a possible trany overhaul. I know, I know, "Welcome to Jeeps".
So instead of feeling sorry for myself, I'm going to fix her. And you guys are going to help me.
(If you want to)
So here it goes.
What are the pluses and minuses of using the original V6 vs. a newer even fire V6?
I like the idea of keeping the motor stock but I am a bit disappointed with the motor's power. (It's bad if an old vw bug can give you a run for your money) This may be due to the fact the motor smokes real bad right when I start it. (possibly valve guides?) any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
