It\'s a wheel Q this time...

OK, I was originaly planning on buying MT Alcoa Classics, but (after things I didn't plan for, glad now I didn't buy such expensive wheels, lol /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif .... Now I am thinking of something more like the American Racing black steel wheels (AR-767).... So I was just wondering if anybody knew how well these stood up, I don't do really heavy duty offroading, mostly street driving, to school, to work, you get the point...

I'm not sure of the "AR-767" model, but I run American Racing steel wheels on my Scrambler and I like them. I bought the 2 white ones and painted them black (to match the other 3 black ones, didn't want to wait for the order). I wheel hard with them and they hold up great, I'm running 33" Swampers on 8" wide and they're beat to hell and back. I do a lot of mixed wheeling, some rock, mud, but mostly trails. When the rims near the sidewall get too "out of whack", I remove them and beat them back into shape. Only 1 of my tires leaks, but it's due to the valve stem and I always forget to replace it. The rims don't seem out of round and always smooth out after the first 10 miles on the road (bia plys tend to get a flat spot after sitting). I hope this helps.

I bought 10x15 Steel Black Spoke Rock Crawler rims from 4 Wheel Parts Wholesalers. The price was right and they look great. I've hit a few rocks on the trail, they hold up real well! Haven't had any problems.

I put the AR 767's on my CJ in November and haven't had a chance to wheel with
them yet. They are more expensive than 4wheel part REtailters but I just haven't
had good luck with them on other orders. They are nice looking wheels
but remember the backspacing might be 3-3/4" or 4" and on a 10" wheel you will
still stick out 2" more than an 8" wheel. I think I paid about $55-60 per wheel
from my local tire store and ordered the spare full size also.

I bought my white spoke steel wheels, 5X8 at Discount Tire for $24.95 each. Work fine, last a long time.

And the best thing about those white spokes is they are real easy to repaint with epoxy paint.
