My 1989 Trooper had it's 2.8 V-6 die. Any suggestions as to what might fit in place of the stock engine, keeping in mind California emission codes? I have had many comments from mechanics as to the unreliability of the 2.8 and am not confident about replacing the dead engine with one of the same.
Thanks.

As will the 3.8, 3.1, and 3.8SC (L67).

Find a wrecked SSEi, GTP, or Regal GS, and yank the engine, computer, and all of that crap.

Now, you'll need to fab up motor mounts, and you'll need an electric radiator fan, but it would be one smokin' Trooper if you do it. I'm doing it as soon as the motor in my '98 craps out.
