Is it possible to register a Dune Buggy?

I've been buggying for around 13 years now and each and every time a paved road needs to be crossed, I get worried about cops. Where I ride (Blackwood, PA), if a dune buggy is caught crossing a road, it will be confiscated from the owner and, of course, the owner will never see it again. Now that my father has thousands of dollars invested in his dune buggy, we're really getting nervous. My question is - Is there any way that a dune buggy can be registered so that, if ever confiscated, ownership can be proven so that the buggy will be returned? All replies highly appreciated! Thanks in advance - Erin

That's pretty brutal to lose a ride for crossing the road!

Here in CA, I've never seen one that wasn't registered. If it's not registered you may get the buggy impounded, a ticket, plus you might get investigated as to where you got it.
In fact, you can get a ticket for an expired reg with the buggy still on the trailer!
If you want to reg here in CA and there is no VIN#, you have go to the DMV to start paperwork, then the Highway Patrol to be checked-out. Then they will give you a new VIN#. If you want it to be street legal, then you have to deal with smog, lights, fenders, brakes, windshield, etc., but it is possible. Other states are different. Like here you can have farm equipment with no plates and drive short distances on the road, like to the feed store, in fact you don't need a drivers license! And licenced golf carts are legal on roads with a 25mph speed limit or less. I've got old people in my city at the supermarket loading groceries into their golf carts!

I kind of dig on the golf cart idea. i wonder how fast one that has been reworked can go?

in CA you can cross any road as long as you go straight across it, not along side of it. if the buggy is not used on the street or on public land (i.e. forrest land, BLM land, etc) then it doen't have to be registerred at all. CA green stickers are to fund the off road areas and to give a record of ownership. if you are using it on priviate property or your own property then it doesn't have to be registered. i don't know about getting the buggy registered for the street. you need to get a copy of the vehicle code for your state and get everything that it calls for. i will bet you fall under the same regs as a kit car.

I just got done with my project golf cart. I put a blown 502 running on alcohol. It has a sweet set of wheelie bars on it. I am taking it out to the track this weekend to she what she can do.

A guy that works at the place that I bought the golf carts for my work from said that he drove one at one of the manufactuer's facilities in SoCal that was clocked at 60mph. That's pretty damn fast for a golf cart. As for the blown 502 in the golf cart... Ummm...yeah...

You have to start at the DMV or DOT and check all the things you need to do to get it register.
I would register it as a street ride.
You will probably need the signal lights, headlights, fenders, windshield, etc.
