Just got the 71 on the road, and now I find out my tranny is making one hell of a noise. Does anybody know what tranny would fit my 401, manual prefered? Would the origanal tranny fit in my jeepster without to much modification? It's out of a wagoneer. It sounds like something is rubbing the flywheel. Gets louder when I push in the clutch. Any suggestions?
Can't find a wiring diagram? Does anybody know where I can get one? I need one for both 71 commando and 76 wagoneer.
By the way sandlizzard is because I'm origanally from Nebraska. GO HUSKERS!

Sounds like a throwout bearing is bad. Or the main bearing on the front of the input shaft. Either one will require you to pull the trans. Once you get it out...throwout bearings are very telling when they go bad. The t-14 is a VERY simple trans to tear apart, bearings are easily accessable and can be bought at Napa or similar.

Good luck.

First, which rig has the issue? Surely you didn't put a 401 in the peepster w/ the T-14? Only a matter of time before it comes apart...seriously. Most folks like granny geared tranny's...SM420, 465, or T-18 (some have higher first gear ratio). Since you didn't mention *what* tranny was in the Waggy...we'll have to wait. However, it'll either be a TH400 (quadrajunk) or TF-727, both good tranny's, but the QT is somewhat suspect without a new chain, cones, and several qts. of the "magic juice" ($$$).
