I get home from work yesterday, and there's a box wrapped with a bow on my workbench. ?. Turns out, it was a little "just because" from Jeepchick. Awwwwww.

It's a nifty little device, really. It's a 1/2" wratchet that is basically filled with a bunch of spring loaded pins. Therefore, it'll fit ANY bolt from 1/4" to 1/2", INCLUDING stripped or deformed nuts and bolts. As you put the socket over the nut or bolt of whatever size, only the necessary pins depress, and the remaining pins act as "filler" between the outer walls of the socket. So basically it's a one-size-fits-all standard/metric/warped/stripped socket. Sweeeet! I'm sure it can't handle extreme pressures, but it's a handy little sucker. And it came with a 3/8" wratchet and high speed drill attachment. She ordered it off the TV, but I can try and find from where if y'all want.

I think I've seen that commercial, I just don't remember it all that well.
I do remember thinking.... "That's a pretty good idea", but questioned
(like you do) the overall strength of the tool. What guarantees does it
come with? It would be good to get a report back from you say.....
in a month or so and let us know what you think of the tool and how
often you actually use it (if at all), either because it doesn't perform
like you expected or out of habit of digging thru the toolbox for the right
size socket/wrench.
Whether you use it or not in the long run, I think you should consider
yourself lucky to have a jeepchick that thinks enough about you to think
of something that she feels you can use/like, take the time to order the
darn thing, pay for it, wrap it up and leave it as a gift "Just because".
Just for that alone, I would hang the thing up in the garage and build
a shrine out of it /wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif.

Garbage!!!!!! Its as big around as a grape fruit and only fits in a open area and the pins twist under hard preasure.
A cresant wrench works a lot better. You can add that one to the box with the pocket fisherman by the garbage can.

I have one and it's not heavy duty. I use it for low torque stuff around the house and it's pretty handy. It won't handle Jeep torque numbers.

I believe they are called the "Gator Grip". I have seen them at Wal-Mart. They are not very heavy duty, but are very usefull in trying to get off a stripped nut or bolt. But only if you have enough room to fit it in. Just like almost every tool, it has it's uses, and has some limits. I never pull it out for things that aren't stripped, just to save wear and tear on it. You have to apply some pressure to push the pins down too, but not much.

I picked up one of those as an impulse-buy at the checkout of the local parts store. It just looked too cool to pass up. Works for most light-duty situations, and good to keep in the console with your swiss army knife if you don't carry along all your sockets. Sometimes it's a pain to keep the thing on the bolt, 'cause the little spring-loaded "pins" try to push it off, but it's fine if you just keep a little pressure on.

Don't let those other guys burst your bubble. They're just jealous that your jeepchick is more thoughtful than theirs.

IMHO it ain't a great tool but it's the thought that counts, and since the better half bought it for you, you'd better keep it:

1. Clean.
2. Handy.
3. Use it in her presence.
4. Thank her time and time again for her thoughfulness.
5. Repeat number 4.
6. Repeat number 4.

You'll be suprised what a few nice words will get you.

If I were you, I would give your Jeepchick a big kiss and a warm thank you! Who cares if the thing isn't some kind of Snap-On wonder tool, it is the thought that counts! My wife does nice stuff for me all the time, and it really takes very little thanks for her to feel appreciated. Plus being grateful for what you get, no matter what it is, always keeps things smoother in a relationship. Sorry for the rant, but that is just my two cents.

my wife got the same thing for me. i made sure to put it in the junk drawer in the kitchen. that way, whenever she asks me to work on something in the house, i get it out and she feels good about it. its not very heavy duty, but it is the thought... besides.. if i ever expect to get another gift.. uh oh.. here she comes.... oww!!! mppph!!!! oww!!!
