Anybody ever replace these on their truck before. Mine is leaking coolant pretty bad. I got a quote from a shop to do it for around $360. I don't really have the time to do it.

well its simpole to do in theory. and its a truck which means you have room to work on it, but look in there man. you see where that intake gasket is? and all the wires and doodads in between you and the gasket.....i'd have to think about doing that one myself. it might be worth it for the $360.

$360 sounds reasonable to me. I think I paid around $400 to have mine done. Time is money! BTW, these are common to start leaking right around 5 years old if you never changed the pink coolant. Mine started leaking like a month past 5 years.

There is a small Chevy dealership in a small town in Indiana that I take my truck to when I want something done right...
They changed the intake gasket on my old GMC 4.3, and I don't think it was even that much. Maybe in the neighborhood of $250. It's been 2 or 3 years though, so I can't be sure.

Thanks everyone. They quoted me with changing the water nipple quick connects. That was the same thing they said about doing that while they were in there.

I could do it myself, but it does look like a freakin pain.

pep boys or autozone sells a steel fitting (that won't break off
) to remove the quick disconect. trust me its worth the $3. Mine broke off and so did my brothers. take my advice it and buy it, if you ever plan on disconecting that line. it's no fun to drill the hole and re-tap it.

I just replaced the one in my 97. I got a qoute of $225-250 from a friend that works in a garage. Everytime I went to have it done, something came up and didn't have the money to do it. So one weekend we changed it, and switched to the green antifreeze. It wasn't really that bad. I have a big block in my truck, so I had to take the upper plenum off to get to the two inside bolts. From what my buddy was saying, the small blocks are harder to change than the big blocks. The fittings are like 6 or 7 bucks, had to replace one.

not sure if youve already had it done, but its not too hard. i just took the intake off as part of my project and it took about 2 hours to get everything off, including the intake. i went slow and marked everything since this was my first time doing it. biggest PITA is you have to pull the distributor so make sure you mark it to get it back in right. yours is newer so im sure you have a few more wires and crap on it, but just use duck tape and a marker to get it all back together right.
