I had an idea about maybe putting a blower on my 304? Just wondering if anyone has done this yet? Wouldn't I just need to cut a hole in the hood to make it work? I've never seen one before but I think it would really put a really great finishing touch on my Jeep :0.... Anyone make one? How much are they? Should I do it?

its VERY epensive, and not really geared to an offroad vehicle.

money would be MUCH better spent on a well built 401, still cheaper and better driveability.

your stock 304 wouldnt handle much of a blower, for long at least.

Do you remember the post about getting the most out of a 10HP B&S engine without making any internal or block mods? Somebody mentioned running an air-line from a high-pressure tank to the intake manifold right under the carb. You could use a switch to open the valve and dump the air in there at whatever PSI you pre-set for a short amount of time. I've been thinking a lot about this and will try to do the math on how much volume of air these engines suck in. It would be especially usefull when your in the mud and the engine is bogging down.

Thats like a completely different idea that I had.. I think the blower coming from the hood would look pretty tite and like put a good finish that would stand out from other jeeps? Does anyone make one?

I have seen it done and some pics of Jeep's ive seen on the net... I have always joked about doing it to mine, but im not to fond about having a hole in my hood.. stuff gets into holes. Its not really needed if you want a little extra OOMPH just build a high tourque high horsepower V8, it many not look as cool as one wiht a blower but sounds ggggreat.

Are you kidding? You want a blower cause it looks cool? I have built three engines with blowers and it's not something you want on a Jeep. The blowers that stick up through the hood would shell a stock engine soooo fast. You need strong internals (forged crank, rods, etc.) and low compression pistons because once the boost comes in you are running the equivalent of about 12.5:1. You won't find a 304 with a forged crank. In addition the compressed cylinder charge tends to raise the temperature quite a bit and we all know what kind of cooling problems that CJ have inherently. Sure, the cool factor is very cool and the blower whine is even better, but the expense is outrageous. Upfront expenses and ongoing from the wear and tear. The real power from a blower is at the top end anyhow, not down low where you want it. In my experience this is not the application for a blower.

If your engine is not built stock, then it still probably isn't built for a blower. Blower engines require mucho strong components, a cam which has a profile which is suitable for use with a blower, and carburetors which are setup properly for blower use. I'm not trying to shoot your idea down, I'm just trying to inform you that there is more to it than bolting a blower and manifold on top of the engine. If you want info on cost check Summit Racing's website or Jeg's. I would doubt if you could find a system like you are looking at (sticking out of the hood) for under $1500. You may only find setups for small block Chevy's and Ford's, so just take the price of those and add at least another 1/3 for an AMC.

Well muddynut i don't know of any one, isn't funny how no one answers the question you ask??? any way if you just want the look you might consider them air intakes that look like a blower, you might have seen them. They stick out of the hood and look kool. hope this helps. you might look in paw mag, they have ads im magazines such as hot rod.

you can use any blower you want, paxton, GM, what ever, the manifold and plumbing is whats gonna hurt you.
Ive seen them USED for AMC engines in teh $3000 range

since you just want it to look tight, why not get one of those blower look alike scoops? you can even rig the butterflys to open with your throttle they are under $300 I think.

what a waste of $$ in my opinion tho.

Thanks ozark.. finally I get some answers... you kinda understand what I'm talking about.. I really didnt want the Intake setup crap.. but one of the cool blower s that sit on top the carb with butterflys... I just think it would set my jeep apart.. i know I'll proally never buy one because whenever I get close to saving for it.. something will break or my jeep wont start and I will have to buy a bunch of crap to fix it.. Does anyone else think it would look trick or am I just a teenager?

Muddynut, I always read your posts and although few of your questions fall inside my area of expertise, I can say you sure do have some interesting ideas!
As far as a blower/hoodscoop goes, since you asked for opinions, here goes. I DO think it would look stupid on a jeep. I mean, think about it. Most of us are trying to think about how to stop things from entering the intake system. We take our Jeeps off-road where debris, water, mud gets thrown around. It seems to me that having a giant vacuum cleaner sticking out of the hood is asking for trouble. So when I think about what you are proposing, all I can think is "STREET JEEP".
For me, (and probably most of us here) what's important is function over appearance, and that is attractive in itself.
If you sacrifice practicality for looks, then doesn't that fit the defination of "poser"?

So what you were asking about really isn't a blower. It is a fake fuel injection intake scoop with butterflies that open with the throttle. Do you want it to stick out of the hood? If so then you're talking about putting it on a tunnel ram intake manifold and you're still going to have drivability issues. Personally, I'm with Bob on this one. Those things just say "poser" all over them and are totally cheesy. BTW, they don't filter the incoming air worth a damn.

Tiajuan,
What snowtow and others were trying to do was explain the impracticality of the mod. Had they just said, it'll be $3000, the next question out of a jeeper of reasonable intelligence would be "what would need to be done and is it practical?" If you ask how much lift would be needed to fit 60" terra tires on a stock CJ5 with D30/AMC20 axles, people are gonna tell you it won't work, they're not gonna tell you you need 4' of lift. It's called trying to help, not avoiding the question.
