Unbelievable, I had switched insurance companies several months ago while the Zuk was off the road, so today I call to get insurance on it and they tell me they will not insure the Suzuki Samurai "because it is too tippy" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I have more loyalty to the Zuk than my Ins Co. so I guess I will be looking for a new company...

Time to switch again.

Mine has been covered by AAA and AIG. Both were liability only.

If you insist on talking to your current insurance company about this, ask them if they insure Bronco IIs. According to discovery documents in Suzuki USA vs Consumer Reports, the Bronco II tested just as tippy if not worse.

Bottom line: It's really a waste of time arguing the point. Just move on knowing it's their loss, not yours.

I have State Farm and they have been MORE than wonderful with me and my sami. I carry full coverage on it during the summer and limited during the winter.
But, since it's going moe of the buggy rout, I'll probably just carry liability this year so I can still drive it to the local trails if needed.

Look for small rural type companies , most of the time they are cheaper and don't consider the hype or bs the big companies do . Also, I'd love to see some law school grad take up a nationwide case against insurance companies . You'd think since it's public info that CR got publicly slapped over that lawsuit by Suzuki they would have to drop that stupid claim.....

I was adding another vehicle onto GMAC insurance.
The guy was asking about my other vehicles - if I still wanted coverage on them.
He said "Gee - I see you have a Geo Tracker, how do you like it?"
I told him fine - then he told me his is 4 wheel drive too and he drives it all over "It sure is great off road!" he said.

He asked if I'd done anything to it -I told him I added a simple hoop, since I'm worried about the Targa not being strong.
He then told me since I drive it off road they were going to cancel me!

Then I got a letter stating that.

I switched all my 11 vehicles to another insurance company.

I guess they didn't like my $1100 every 6 months.

I am with progressive and we have never breached where the sami is driven. I do carry only liability and drop it while it is down for extended periods. we have had no complaints. also though I realize that it is just liabilty and for nothing other than to apeice the local govt.

Does anyone out there use USAA on their Samurai's?

What has your experience been with them?
will they cover the actual value of the vehicle?

[/ QUOTE ]

I had liability only on a Samurai. It was dirt cheap and they never even asked if the Zuk was modified.

Progressive asked me if my samurai was modified, and asked me specifically what modifications were done, as soon as there was a hint of any kind of lift they immediately stated that they do not insure off-road vehicles and denied me of any coverage for it.

Farmers Insurance gave me a great quote for it.
Safeco gave me a great quote also,

and both know that it is modified and used for off-roading ocasionally

See if you can search out an agent for IMT insurance out of Des Moines, Iowa . I had called Progressive for one of their quotes and this company came up as one of their competitors at nearly half the cost ....
I had Farmers for quite awhile until they thought it was necessary to jack my rates twice a year for no reason . Dropped them like a bad habit ...

I talked to a body shop owner the other day - he said Farmers plays all sorts of games with him. They authorize him to do work, but stall when it comes time to pay him. AFTER the work is finshed, they try to grind him down below what they promised.

He no longer accepts work if it's to be paid by Farmers. He tells the customer they have to pay, then Farmers can pay them back. Most customers won't do it that way.

Ack, who is AIG? could you spell it out.

Thanks

nevermind, I figured it out, American International Group

is that correct?

Close enough. The division of "AIG" on the policy is called "American International South Insurance Company" /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

From my rental-car management days, I recall Allstate being just as much fun to deal with as Farmers. For example, they never would accept 100% fault. My favorite was the woman who parked her car, got out and went into the store. While away from her vehicle, another car crossed the line from another direction and plowed into her drivers side door. Allstate (the other driver's company) insisted that she was partially (I want to say 10 or 20%) responsible because she made the conscious decision to park her car in the street where it was vulnerable.

Seems to me that when insuring your zuki, the wise attitude would be to take the stance of a poseur... "Nah, I dont wanna get it dirty, I built it up to look real cool"

I can see right now I have a lot of catching up to do on samurais'.. But anyway,I belong to a motorcycle club here in North MS. (Southern Cross MC) I ride a 1500 Vulcan classic,.. everywhere. It has no wipers, seat belts, air bags, roll bar, emergency brake, training wheels, or any of the other fancy safety features that todays average car/truck would have. Its loud, more powerful, WAY faster, MORE tippy than my zuki, and will slide like a piece of ice on a wet oily street. A few years ago you would have been hard pressed to find an insurance company that would insure a bike. Now they all do it... My full coverage is somthing like $254 a year... Sompin just aint rite about all this... I have yet to put my zuk on the street so it isn't insured...
Hummm,.. Thinking bout calling BikeLine on some zuki insurance...

My wife's Astro van just got hit by an old lady. The old lady ran a red light, lots of witnesses, police cited the old lady. Clearly her fault.

The old lady's insurance company is State Farm.
I think that's where the mafia has moved to.

The adjuster looked at my wife's van, then they called with the information they were going to "total it."
They valued it waaaay below Kelly book, less than 1/2 wholesale value - even though it's got all the goodies and (was) in excellent shape. It's impossible to replace it for that. They are just rip-off scammers.

I'm going to have to sue the old lady personally - she obviously doesn't have a real insurance company.

My home owners insurance is also State Farm (but not our car insurance) - I'm going to cancel them in the next few days.

You have insurance to protect your investments - if they don't do it, why do we need them?

An investigation into how much the insurance companies are bribing state officials to keep the laws requiring the mafia insurance companies to be paid. ANY politician caught taking those bribes should be shot! (He He - that would eliminate almost all politicians.)

They'll probably have me killed for even saying that.

This is when you get a lawyer and have them handle it before you sign anything. I've had to resort to that once before and even though I hated doing it, we ended up getting what we needed.

Basically, I was stopped on a 2 lane highway waiting to turn left, and some lady in a cherokee slammed into us becaus she was looking at the trees or something.

The car was a plain jane leased camry, and the insurance company was going to total it but not for the full value, that is we would have had to owe money on it somehow.

Got a laywer, got the car paid for and injuries paid for, and I think a few extra hundred for our trouble, which considering all the missed work and such, came out to be even.
