Right know I only have liabilty insurance for my 78 CJ-7 so If someone steals it I'll lose big. My insurance company won't cover it for anything higher than book. Is there any companies that have a special coverage on heavily modified and rebuilt jeeps?

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif I ran into this with an early model suburban that I had a ton of dough invested in with upgrades, etc. What I did was go to a certified appraiser and had him determine the value, then i insured it for THAT value. The problem most insurance companies have with upgraded or modified vehicles is that they cannot figure out how much it would cost for a repair shop to restore your Jeep to it's "modified" condition, so collision repair is a big problem. FIRE, and THEFT, however, can be covered by the appraised value approach./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Here is a question for you guys who have done engine swaps....did you tell your insurance companies?? Wouldn't this increase your insurance because of the larger engine?? I did a engine swap to a V8 and haven't told my insurance yet and I was wondering if anyone ran across insurance problems......I have Geico insurance if anyone is wondering.

A lot depends on the state you are in. In most states, its the model of the veh, not the engine size that determines part of the rate. In other words, they don't care if you have a mustage GT with the 4 or 8 cyl...its still a GT.

If in doubt, call up ask for a quote...they don't need to know that you are a current ins customer.
