Guys, any resources for replacing just the face on the speedo (maybe an overlay)? Mine's rusted beyond repair. I was able to clean up and wax the fuel and temp faces but too much rust on the speedo.

I know you guys have been pretty resourceful at reproducing overlays for the switch panel but haven't seen anything for the speedo? Buy a complete panel?

Thx

Bill,
Been on this bbs for a while, but haven't heard of overlays for the panel. If you replace it, make sure all of the stuff works and is visually sound. Waggies use the same panel and I seem to remember quite a few on ebay. Mark Vilbert at www.justjeepsters.com might have one or two. GL.

Hi Bill. I might have a good faceplate, if that's all you need. I know that I have 2 instrument clusters out of 71's. the guages don't work and I remember taking the faceplates off several years ago to get to the guts inside. I'll try to hunt them up tomorrow and see what shape they're in. It is just the face plate you need?

Hey Bill!
Sorry, I didn't get around to looking for the faceplate today. I'll try to take a look around tomorrow. I got tangled up with trying to figure out finances today.
WHO says the economy's on the upswing??!! I'll check out the faceplate and let you know.

Somewhat confused on what you are looking for. Is it the faceplate for the entire gauge cluster OR is it the faceplate for the Speedometer itself (i.e. the one with the numbers on it)?

Looking for a replacement speedometer face plate for 71. Inside instrument gauge cluster when speedometer is removed from instrument panel, black face plate with MPH in white letters is riveted to speed / odometer assembly.

Probably should buy new instrument panel but being cheap for now. Looks like I am going over the budget I doubled when I started.

Hi Bill,
I misunderstood what you needed.I looked today and found that I do have an extra faceplate, but it is the rectangular plate with the turnsignal, amps, etc marked on it. I'll take another look around for the speedo part you're actually looking for. I might
have one, I'm not sure. LOL

I have an instrument panel that I took out of a Jeepster somebody used for target practice. I will look this evening since I think the speedo was spared lead posioning.

Bill,

Finally thawed out enough here to get into the parts room. The speedo I have from the pistol taget Jeepster has a nice 9mm hole through the face. I do have another instrument panel with a good speedo and Temp gauge. The gas gauge has bent needle and there is no faceplate on it. The odometer has 385 miles showing, so it is practically showroom condition!!

E-mail me at [email protected] or send a PM here if interested.
