I put the vent tube in the other nite, drove to work the next morning, ran great got rid of the flat spot but now I noticed that my idle is pretty rough. It doesn't want to stall or anything but you can feel the car shake and the exhaust got a little louder. Anyone have any idea what's going on? Is there any adj. I need to make to the carb? Thanks for the help.

Same thing happened to me! I think I have a hole in the fuel line so my zook runs verrrrrrry! bad!!!! There is idle, off, and floored. NOTHING inbetween works! AHHAHA, awwww,,,, aw dam, thats my zook. <G>
I'm going to change my timing belt soon and check out the fuel lines.. I'll keep ya updated if I find a fix for that...

Had rough idle two weeks ago on 87 Sam it was intermittant
like it had mind off it's own after try'in 100K things on
fuel system found it to be two small mirco switchs located
on front of carb if get dirty or worn they make & break
sending conflicting yes and no signals to ECM idle
controller logic causing major idle problems.
two mirco switchs should have closed contacts when gas pedal is up.

Test by placing jumper across them this sends signal to ECM
time to idle and sets go logic for an Idle Up condition.

These mirco switchs are very common type found anywhere
believe Radio Shack even sells them I found bunches of them
in electrical scrap yard coated them with silicon to quasi
water proof installed them idle is great now, but dammmm
this was hard to find.

The only thing I don't understand is everything worked fine no idle problems at all until I installed the vent tube, all I had was the flat spot and the tube cleared that problem up. Maybe the tube is making the carb run to rich or lean now? Any suggestions are welcome.

Remove vent tube
tune engine up to manuf. specs
reinstall vent tube

Note: ECM controls idle, confirm ECM I/O is correct.

You need to re-adjust you mixture screw,I had to do this also for the idle when i installed mine-common thing!this should set you straight good luck!

Thanks for the help, but the only problem is I don't have the service manual. Could you tell me or do you have pics of the screws that need adjusted? My idle at startup is way to high now, I don't have a tach but I can tell that it's revving to the moon, and I can here a pinging going up hills now that I didn't have before. So if you could walk me through this either through e-mail or phone call let me know. Thanks!

I dunno what happened, she runs great now>?!?! I think there was some dirt or possibly metal particles in the carb from putting the vent tube in.. Stalling, rough running, no power, and every problem has dissapeared!?!? I was just driving along minding my own business <G>, and it just started working again. Magic?

I think my timing is to far advanced now, because the motor is pinging all the time. Anyone know what the timing should be for a stock 88'? Thanks.
