IMPORTANT - I need opinions, especially Shawn\'s

This is really important so everyone please reply. Please.

I was going to make a 500 mile trip to Cheyenne for the summer in my truck and stay there a month or two. I mainly wanted to to get my tires from Shawn and to not be away from my truck.

Relatives have suggested to me that I should leave my truck at home and hitch I ride with my aunt and mother half way each. I would drive one of my uncles trucks to work with for him, and get the tires and let them sit for the 2 months I am there. I see the point, and this would be my first big trip, but you have to do it sometime right?

I was also planning on working on my truck up there too, make some custom bumpers and such. And if I find dome cool parts, I could load them in the bed! Another point is that 4 36x14.5 TSL's are not going to fit in the back of my mothers explorer very well.

I rellay wanted to go, but now I dont know. I really dont want to drive that far, but I really do want to have my truck in Cheyenne. If I dont take it I save money on gas.

My truck is meachanicly sound except for a slight valve cover leak, and I just changed the oil. The engine only has 6,000 miles on it also.

So what do you think? Please make an argument either way, I only have a week.

Thank you for your time. I promise to make a new epic adventures soon.

I say do it. This is a good learning experience. Plus Shawn will get to see your truck. LoL. Fix the valve cover leak cuz a messy engine compartment is just plain wrong. This will be a good time to see what your truck needs, etc. Besides, you'll have someone with you following you the way up there right? DO IT!!

AH....Just DO IT MAN!!!! 500 miles isn't far at all or I mean its not like 5000 miles anyway. I have driven some pretty bad vehicals over 500 miles non stop and they never gave me a problem. One that comes to mind was my first car...An 1982 Chevy Celebrity. WHAT A POS/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

I say go for it then you can put your tires on and actually get to drive it around instead of just looking at those awsome 36" Swampers for 2 months/wwwthreads_images/icons/wink.gif

I'd take the truck if I were you. One reason being yo wouldn't have to ask anyone for a ride anywhere and you can just go and leave as you please without looking for someone to get a ride from. Besides what if you want to go cruisin' for chicks in Cheyenne, at least you know you'll be in a bad ass truck. Another thing is taking a long road trip by yourself is a good way to get in touch with yourself, gives you time to think about things in your life. On the saving money on gas part, that would be the downside but hey, you take the good with the bad right. Besides how you gonna get those big ass tires home?? I vote take it. Have fun on your trip and good luck!!!

Yes RJ that would suck looking at those perty ole Swampers for 2 months , polishing the wheels countless times a day, instead of just bolting them up and riding around looking cool. lol.
This trip will also let you know if you wanna do any aspiration mods. i.e. EFI, etc.

I'd have to agree with everyone else. Just drive it down. Sounds like a good time to work on the truck anyway and lets not forget you're so close to the Rocky Mountains for a good trail ride or two. I don't know about you guys but when I leave town for just a couple days, I really miss my vehicles. Those rental cars just don't cut it!

Take the truck. When I first bought my truck from my parent's in May of 98 I immediately drove it 1,000 miles down to Pensacola, Florida where I was stationed at the time. I loved it. Road trips are something that everyone should do. 2 months later I drove the same road trip, only going back up to Michigan, with my buddy. We did it all in one sitting, overnight, and half way through he mentioned he had forgotten his contacts!/wwwthreads_images/icons/laugh.gif
Three weeks later we drove from Middleville, Michigan, to San Diego, California in 3 days. About 2600 miles. Loved it. I can't wait to do it again, as I am driving back to Michigan in October with my dad.

It is definately something you should do. Gives you a chance to learn new things about your truck. When was the last time you drove it for that long in one stretch? Never probably. You also get to see some of the country and satisfy that "wanderlust" everyone has to an extent./wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif

DO IT!!!!!

Everytime I've left my truck at home I've regreted it. Plain and simple!!! When you really love your truck there's just no substitute for it. You'll be wishing you had it the whole time you're there and we're not just talking about a few days here.

Honestly, yes, I will! I really was thinking against doing it, but all that work will pay off just to see the look on Shawns face when I load the tires and then drive off without paying him.....

Heh heh.....

No, seriously, it'll be worth it just to drive around a bit and transport lawnmowers. Maybe I'll go to the drivethrus in town and freak the McDonals lady out. Hmmmmm........

Thanks guys!

BTW - Keep the reasons coming incase I try and change my mind again, OK?

RJ... Just do it!!! My first road-trip was almost 1,000 each way!!! It'll be fine, it's a Chevy fer cripes sake!!! It'll be an adventure/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif/wwwthreads_images/icons/cool.gif and then when the truck makes it there and back without any problems, you can say "See, I told ya it'd make it!"
